Emma groaned and her eyes slowly fluttered open. It was like getting up from bed after passing out from studying. Her back was a little sore and her head hurt a little, but either than that she was fine.
But how could she be fine?
She looked to her side and saw an alarm clock which read 7:45. It had only been roughly 30 minutes since she had been at the mall so how the hell could everything be normal. How was she completely fine?
Her ankle had been torn open and her body felt like it was on fire.
Emma's hand went to her throat as she recalled Daniel cutting it open and implanting a small crystal inside. But nothing was there anymore and nothing hurt. All that was left was a thin, white scar.
She was in Daniel bedroom, in his bed.
She sat up and noticed Daniel sitting at the edge of her bed. The mattress dipped with the added weight. He looked heavyhearted and distressed. He noticed her movement and look towards her, a hurt look covering his face.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean for him to hurt you, I didn't mean for you to get hurt. If you want to yell at me or push me away I completely understand," he said with pain in his voice.
"It's not your fault," she whispered as she took a hold of his hand. Why was she so calm about the situation? After all the emotions she had gone through this was the one she chose? It was as if she were finally gaining a peaceful understanding of things.
"You saved me," she smiled sweetly. It was true. Whatever blood ritual or spiritual procedure that Daniel performed on Emma had worked. Though it freaked her out, she couldn't help but trust him after what he did.
"That doesn't matter. He hurt you. I let him hurt you," Daniel said. His eyes were focused on Emma's hand holding hers. He was unsure of whether he deserved her trust.
"You didn't let him hurt me, you did your best to protect me," she said reassuringly as he stroked his hand with her thumb.
"I didn't do good enough," he said, his hand escaping her grasp. "I should have done better. This hasn't happened before."
"What hasn't happened before?"
Daniel looked up at her with sorrow in his eyes.
"My- nevermind. It's not safe here. We have to go somewhere else. Do you trust me?"
"Yes. But you have to tell me what's going on."
"I will. I promise I'll tell you anything you want to know but we have to go," he said pulling her off the bed.
Before they left Daniel pulled something out of the fridge and handed it to Emma.
"What's this?" she asked in confusion.
"Drink it, you haven't eaten all day and trust me, it's going to taste better than your usual food."
Without question, Emma drank the strange substance and it cured her hunger pains immediately. They stepped outside and Daniel came behind Emma to wrap his arms around her waist. Tingles went through her body from Daniel's touch and it left her breathless when he propelled them into the sky.
He eased up and soon enough he was flying her into the sky by only holding her hand. The feeling she had was incredible. She felt as light as air and they were soaring into the air higher and higher.
Soon they reached the top of a very tall skyscraper.
The view was incredible. The bright lights lit up the city and the orange glow made the city feel warmer.
