"You're dropping me off at the mall?" Emma asked in disbelief. "I think telling me what the hell is going on is more important than my shopping needs."
"I figure you'd be safer in a public place. I need to go away for a bit and take care of whatever shot that arrow at your head. They clearly have terrible aim but they still pose a threat, so I need you to stay here," Daniel expressed himself in a clear, gentle tone.
"And do what?" Emma retorted. "Wait around for someone else to try and kill me?"
"Stay safe and stay in sight. Oh, and shop if you want," he smirked, handing her his wallet. She opened it and peered inside.
"How the hell do you have this much money?!" she exclaimed a little too loud.
"Don't think about the logistics too hard," he said with a casual smile and strolled away.
Emma stood there like a fool, dubious about what to do. She was unsure of what to do or where to go.
She looked around the big mall and saw people with shopping bags or fast food in their hands, some with friends and some with family. They were laughing with each other and everyone but Emma seemed normal.
How to act normal? How to act like everything was okay? How to act like everything was fine when she just found out that her boyfriend was some sort of angel. Normal was beyond her grasp with now. She felt like her brain was going to explode if she thought about it any longer. Emma noticed that the longer she stood around, the more people started to stare at her. So she decided to do something normal, like go to a name brand store such as Forever 21.
Emma entered the clothing store and started looking around.
The whole atmosphere of the store was very vibrant and chic. There were high ceilings with cool light fixtures installed that hung down from the ceilings. The metal clothing racks and white shelves and displays made the clothing stand out.
She rifled through clothing racks and looked at beautiful leather jackets, trendy high-waisted denim shorts, and cute gladiator sandals. She found herself drawn to a blush colored ribbed cami mini dress and a distressed denim jacket.
The girl selected the two items and headed to the change rooms to see how the two would pair together and fit her body. She made her across the store, refraining herself from checking out the other eye-catching garments she found herself drawn to.
Emma almost made it to the change rooms when she stopped herself in her tracks.
Daniel's words echoed in the back of her mind.
Stay safe and stay in sight.
If she went into a change room then she would not be in sight, and therefore she would not be safe. Emma made the decision to not go into the change rooms. Better to be safe than sorry. Emma was not about to take any chances after someone had just shot an arrow at her head through a window just this morning.
She hurried back to the clothing racks and proceeded to hang her items back up. Finding where the items weren't an issue, the issue was Emma's new found strength. She hung up the dress with ease, seeing as the rack was mounted to the wall.
But when Emma went to hang up the denim jacket she accidentally knocked over the whole rack, causing a scene. A worker looked over and glared at Emma as she hurried to pick up the rack and clean up the clothing that had fallen off.
"I'm sorry," she said as she hung up the last piece of clothing, and then quickly scurried out of the store.
Emma found herself bored out of her mind so she decided to go wandering around the mall.
