there's bravery in being soft
We all stepped off the bus to the stadium our all-boys school and their all-girls school had to share in order to gain our extra credits. I sometimes hate that it's the law that the single-sex schools have to interact or it doesn't count. What will playing a sport with a girl do for us in the future but make up both competitive with each other in the real world?
That's going to happen anyways.
Namjoon catches the ball that goes sailing in the air just as the small class of girls begun to fill in the other side of the room.
"Mr. Lee," the woman stares our teacher up and down as if she's getting ready to murder him.
"Ms. Yang," he responds while giving her the same look. "Alright! We have to do this for an hour. So first we'll start with warm-ups," he shouts over our heads. We all nod and begin doing jumping jacks. "See, my boys already know whats up." He smirks at her and I swear she growled.
"Girls, I want twenty squats and two sets of fifteen lunges!" These girls break out into some bodybuilding work out shit because none of them were tired after their tenth squat. I was exhausted just looking at them.
After a good twenty minutes of the teacher shouting orders at us. They realized we were as good as dead and decided to start the game. I rushed over to Namjoon to let him know I don't really want an important part on the team so he allowed me to pass the ball instead.
I stood in the center and the second the bell rung my heart jumped out of my chest. I didn't want to fail Mr. Lee since events like these he starts adding extra points on the quizzes.
I needed those points if I wanted to be entered in English Honors Club. Although my English is shit, that title looks good on colleges.
"Mona Lisa! It's nice for you to join us!" Mr. Lee pauses the game as a girl comes scrambling on the court. All it took was the blonde hair to go flying out of her face for me to instantly lose all of my thinking habits. She was nervous and clammy as if this attention on her was too much. But she positioned herself on the court anyway and joined the game.
With two minutes counting down, we were even. I think the girls did this on purpose because they usually beat our school three weeks out of four.
"Jungkook!" I look over and see the ball sailing in the air towards me. I caught it without even thinking and stared at our basket all the way on the other side of the floor. "You can make it!" Taehyung motions for me to run but I couldn't. My eyes locked on Mona Lisa and I froze.
She was in front of my face bouncing side to side ready to savagely knock down any of my moves. My heart continues to beat for her and my mind jumbled into a million pieces. Before I knew what I was doing, I passed her the ball and she froze too.
"Jungkook! What the fuck!" That is the first time I've heard Mr. Lee curse. But when Mona Lisa effortlessly threw the ball into the net and scored the winning point, it didn't seem worth it.
I thought she'd feel what I felt at this moment. Let the game be a tie and that's it. But just like the rest of her dumb school, she has to be on top.
And because of my dumb feeling for this girl. I'm the most hated kid right now.
