Elena's POV

Was I dreaming or was Damon really here? As quickly as he appeared he disappeared again.

Maybe he came to say goodbye because I don't think that I can continue anymore. I am going to die here. Under this house, covered in my own blood, in pain and alone. But at least I will finally be free. There will be an end to my suffering.

When my surroundings go dark again I uncover my face and breathe in the cold damp air from the rain. The sound of rain hitting the house blocks out the throbbing from my head. All I can hear is the rain. I feel calmed. The calmest I have felt all month.

I told myself I would never give up. That one day I would have a better life but now I have given up. I decided that awhile ago and now I have seen Damon one last time, I am ready to go.

Damon's POV

I run around to the back of the house knowing that the cops are following me. "Mr Salvatore you need to stop running!" One shouts at me. I stop once I reach the back of the house, turning around to face them. I point to the hole where you can get under the house, "Elena is under there chained up and covered in blood. We need to get her out!" I shout as I go to go back under the house hoping they will follow and be able to get her out.

I feel someone grab my shoulder and pull me back, "You need to stay up here with an officer. I will go have a look." The officers nod to each other and one pulls out her torch and makes her way under the house. It is a tight fit so she is forced to remove her jacket and even then she only just fits.

After what a few minutes the officer calls up, "Charlie call an ambulance and the team we need Mr Gilbert brought into custody." The officer immediately begins calling. I begin to feel a little hope, finally Elena will get the help she needs and will escape this life.

Elena's POV

The next time I am aware of my surroundings and pulled back into reality is when I feel someone with their fingers on my neck. Are they taking my pulse? I stir trying to get them off of me which causes them to pull away. They shout something about an ambulance. I open my eyes slightly to see what is going on only to be blinded by a torch. The person notices and moves it away so it is not directly on my face rather on my body.

I think my last adrenaline rush kicks in at the thought someone is here. I try to look closely at them and notice a police badge. Police. They finally will be able to know the truth. Maybe I can get the help I need but have always feared getting.

"Hi sweetie can you tell me your name?" She asks as she uses the blanket I has loosely wrapped around me tighten on my leg. It have a deep wound which is bleeding a lot.

"Elena." I say although I couldn't hear myself so I doubt she could hear me either. "We need to get you out of here and to the hospital. Can you move at all?" I couldn't even shake my head to tell her no. I guess that answered her question. "I know this is going to hurt but I am going to try to carry you out of here." I closed my eyes, I just wanted to be out of here.

As soon as she lifted my body off the floor I fainted. The pain was overwhelming.

Damon's POV

I knelt down by the edge of the hole waiting for Elena to come. I saw the top of her head first. The officer was clearly struggling to move her and rightly so. It was a tight fit under the house. I moved in putting my arms under Elena's to pull her up. "I've got her." I called down. "Okay be really careful with her." "Okay the ambulance will be here soon." I said mostly to Elena to try to reassure her but I quickly realised she had passed out.

Luckily the rain has practically stopped by the time I pulled Elena up. I picked up the officers jacket she has taken off earlier and wrapped it over Elena's upper body. I knelt to the ground holding Elena close to my chest. I just hold her close, not being able to bring myself to look down at her.
