Damon's POV
It's now Friday and I haven't seen Elena all week. I know she's usually in isolation so that might be why but I also know she's probably avoiding me. I don't care, I'll find someone else. There are loads of girls who want to with me. I probably just like her because she's a challenge.
I'm sitting in last period when I hear the speaker over the whole school go off. "Please could the owners of the cars with the licence plates BEB 920, KJJ 3205, YXP 5359 and VBK 1313 come to the principals office immediately."
I recognised the last one. That was Elena's car.
Everyone is know talking about what could have happened. People have recognised the other cars. And they are the typical people who get into trouble. So people are trying to guess what they have done this time.
Once the bell goes off signally that it is the end of the school day I walk to my locker, putting back my books. As I close it I notice Elena. She's leaning her head against the door frame of the principals office. The door is closed to Elena must be waiting. I can't help but wonder why her car licence plate was announced to the whole school.
I want to ignore her. We aren't even friends. We are in the same year and go to the same school but that's all we have in common. We could never be friends and yet I still find myself walking over to her.
I walk behind her, she hasn't noticed I'm there so I decided to come out with a witty comment. I don't want her catching on I've been wanting to see her again.
"Did I give that to you?" I say as I point down to the now really faint hicky mark on her neck. She quickly turns around and pulls her hoodie up to cover her neck. "Oh don't hide it now". I smirk at her.
She looks back down at the floor. She must really enjoy this whole ignoring thing.
"I have my own marks from" I say as I point to my back. "You have sharp nails and I must have been really good." She still doesn't say anything. I go to talk to her again but the principals office door opens revealing two police officers along with the principal and the other students who's car licence plates were read out. There parents were also there.
The principal looks at me. "Mr Salvatore is there anything I could help you with?"
"No sir I was just talking to Elena." I look over to Elena but she's still looking down not saying anything.
"Okay well you should get going it's the end of the school day. Elena please take a seat in my office."Elena walks in and the principal and two police officers follow her in closing the door behind them. I shouldn't be surprised. Elena is literally always in trouble. For skipping class, drugs or even fighting.
I walk out of school to car. I think it's safe to say I'm over the little crush I had on her.
Elena's POV
There's no change of scenery here. Being trapped in the principals office is my life and the police are being a lot more familiar with who I am.
So here is what happened this time. Me and some other guys were drag racing. We do it every Friday at the back of school. The only problem is the road is one way so one car has to drive on the pavement. I'm guessing one of the residents wasn't too happy and took photos of our cars and brought them to the school.
"Elena are you even listening to us!" The principal screams out to me. I look up but don't answer. One of the police officers takes the seat next to me faces me. "Miss Gilbert you could have killed yourself or another from your reckless driving." She's talking to me so calmly I don't really understand why. Shouldn't everyone be screaming. I turn to face her as she continues to speak. "You are not making this any better for yourself." I still don't say a word. The principal now speaks but he also goes calm. "We have been unable to get in contact with your father" again "do you know where he is?" "No" is all I say. He's probably past out drunk.
The other police officers speaks up now. He's new to the force. He must have joined in the week as last time I was at the station he was not there. "What about your mother?" The principal and other police officer immediately glare at him but he just looks confused. I turn to look at him before I speak "I know exactly where she is. The mystic falls cemetery but I don't think dead people are capable of answering the phone."
The female police officer speaks again, "okay Elena." She wats until I look at her before she continues to speak. "As we are unable to get hold of your dad we can't de-arrest you so you'll need to the station with us where you'll spend the night in a cell. Police officers have been sent to your house but the chances are you'll be spending the night."
This is the same police officer who has arrested the most. So she knows my so called dad never answers the phone or the door.
It doesn't take long until we have arrived at the police station. The walk we through to the sheriffs office. Once I'm there I have to hand over any personal belongs, answer more questions and they tell me my punishment will be decided tomorrow morning.
The sheriff is now speaking to me, "Now since you have been arrested previously for drug use and under age drinking we need to take a urine sample." She hands me a plastic pot. She points to a door down the hall, "restrooms are down there. Please go now." I look down the pot now in my hands, "I haven't taken any drugs or had any alcohol." "But miss Gilbert you have been arrested for it before and we simply can not take your word. Now it's either this or we can take you to the hospital for a blood test." I would prefer the blood test but if I go to the doctors they'll see, well my life. I can't have anyone knowing what he does to me. Never.
I stand up and walk to the restroom.
Once everything is done I'm taken to my cell. They lock the door behind me and I sit myself on the bed. I smile. I have a bed for the night and a roof above me. Also heating and they will feed me dinner. I lay back on the pillow. I know I'll be in so much trouble tomorrow but at least I won't be tired or hungry.
I'm woken in the morning by the sound of my cell opening. I wish I could live here.
"Good morning miss Gilbert would you please follow me". I stand up and follow her. She's the same officer from yesterday. Maybe be has got stuck with taking all my cases.
Since I've eaten and slept I find myself capable of actually talking. I walk quickly so I'm now next to her. "So we spend all this time together and I don't even know your name. How rude of me." She gives a half smile before she answers, "Officer Charlie."
"Are we not on a first name bases?"
"Cecil Charlie."
"Why does that sound so familiar."
"I was best friends with your mother in high school."
"Oh."Before we walk into the sheriffs office she stops me. "Miss Gilbert." I turn to look at her. "I loved your mother like a sister which I why I can tell you she wouldn't want this life for you. I want to help you."
"Why?"
"Because I remember how much she loved you and I owe it to her."
"Don't you blame me for her death? Everyone else does." My voice begins to break a little.
"No how could anyone blame you, what happened was not your fault. Does your father blame you?"I don't answer. I can't.
He does blame me I know. My mother died during child birth. She gave her life for me. If I didn't exist she would still be here. I know she should be the one alive, not me.
Luckily before I have to answer Charlie's question the sheriffs down opens. "Thank you officer Charlie. Miss Gilbert would you please come in and take a seat."
I walk into her office and sit down. She closes the door and walks in. But instead of taking her seat behind her desk she sits next to me.
"First things first your car has been taken to the impound and you'll need to pay the fine before you can have it back. Three points have been put on your licence and you'll have to attend a presentation on reckless driving next Saturday. Failure to do so will result in the loss of your licence." I nod along as she talks. I can't lose my licence. It took me forever to steal enough so I could pay for it.
"Now we need to discuss your urine sample." As she says that she grabs the sheet of paper of her desk.
"I told you I had no drugs in my system."
"You're correct. Well there was trace amounts of weed but that does stay present in your body 30 days after consumption."
"Right."
"What I would like to address to you is your results came back stating there is a presence of hCG"
"If that's a drug there's a mistake because I haven't taken anything."
"Miss Gilbert hCG is only present in the urine of pregnant women."
