Chapter 14

~Jade's P.O.V.~

"What the fuck happened here?" I said.

This place is a mess, who would do something like this?

Walking around the place I found a neat, hand written note on the kitchen counter. Almost like it was placed there. Picking it up to examine it my jaw dropped.

I can't believe this.

"Hey, did you find anything?" Cameron said as he walked up behind me.

"What's this?" he asked referring to the note.

I couldn't say anything so I just gave it to him. As he was reading it I left the room, not being able to hear what that note said.

"Aww look who's home. You mess up my life I'm gonna ruin yours. But if you don't want something like this to happen again I suggest you give Jade back to me. Otherwise I'll take matters into my own hands. Just look at it this way Cameron. My daughter, or you.

Yours truly, Brian."

This can't be happening. I've tried so hard to make things better but that's clearly not working. What am I gonna do?

Cameron then came out of the kitchen and before I could say anything he wrapped his arms tightly around my body.

"I don't wanna be alone tonight. Can you stay with me?" I mumbled so low I wasn't even sure if he heard me.

He didn't say anything. He just nodded and hugged me tighter.

That night I rolled over to feel...nothing beside me. I quickly shot up straight to see Cameron was missing with a note on the pillow placed instead.

"Hey Jade,

Sorry if I freak you out by not being here but I have to do this. Your dad said it's either you or me and I can't let it be you. I'm sorry if you're mad at me but I'll be okay. We're meeting around that alley on Main Street. I'll be okay don't worry.

-Cameron"

Oh hell no. This is not happening. I quickly got out of bed, slipped on my sneakers, grabbed the car keys and sped all the way there. Nothing is gonna happen to him because of me. Nothing.

I was racing in my car to find him.

Please be ok. Please.

I can't let anything bad happen to him. It's my fault he's in this mess in the first place.

Once I reached the alley I jumped out of the car and started running towards the back of the abandoned buildings not even bothering to lock the car. There's no way in hell I'm letting anything happen to him.

I heard a gunshot and willed my legs to move faster.

Keep going. Keep going.

Once I reached the opening I saw the two of them.

My father was there bloody and smiling menacingly at me.

Then I saw Cameron. On the ground with a bullet hole through his chest.

"No!" I screamed and ran to him.

"What did you do?!" I cried at my father.

The sobs came down so hard that I couldn't even talk.

I could see Cameron fighting to just let go.

"Jade it'll be ok" he said

I just shook my head no. This wasn't supposed to happen. Not to him.

"Yes it will be ok," he said a little more firmly...

"because I love you".

And with that he shut his eyes into an everlasting slumber.

Then it all came out. The tears, sobs, and cries into the night.

This can't be happening.

I looked up at the man who caused this with pure anger and hatred.

I ran over to him and took a swing to his jaw.

He seemed to stumble for a bit not being used to seeing me fight back. But he quickly regained his balance and shoved me to the ground throwing pinches and kicks.

His gun fell out of his pocket and I quickly reached for it and pulled the trigger.

He fell to the ground never to get up again.

I got up and ran back to where Cameron was.

I can't believe he's gone. He was my best friend, he was the one person who didn't doubt me, he was the only one who could see past my flaws. He was the only one who could make me smile and laugh and comfort me. And now he's gone.

"I love you too Cameron. I love you."
