The world was a cruel place, your parents had taught you that many years ago. You always kept that thought deep inside your head, never letting it go. War broke out everywhere, and your family barely survived. Your last home was attacked by other tribes in an attempt to lure out Burn's army, and it worked.
That was over a year ago.

You and your family were loyal to Burn and her army, and because of this, she allowed you to live inside her stronghold. It was like a new home, one that you'd freshly moved into like you had no worries at all. Burn barely acknowledged you, only talking to your family in meetings or war discussions.
So it came as a bit of a surprise when you weren't paying attention.

"What do you think?" Burn demanded, looking straight at you. You snapped to attention, looking confused at first. "Wh-what?" You croaked, instantly knowing it was a mistake. This is why you pay attention, idiot! Your inner voice yelled at you. "You've studies the kingdoms and dragons for the past five months, so you know better than most of us here. Do you think we should launch an attack on the IceWings or not?" Your father said before Burn could speak.

"Oh. Well, the palace is heavily guarded, so it would be hard to launch an attack without allies. What I think we should do is instead of getting our dragons to do it, we get a few dragons from the SkyWings and MudWings to help. They'll provide extra help and the IceWings will never expect it." You explained quickly, feeling relief wash over you like a tidal wave. "Well, my son knows all about it. I say we listen to him and go for it." Your mother said, giving you a worried glance. "Alright, we'll send a messenger to the Sky Kingdom tonight, then one to the Mud Kingdom tomorrow." Burn agreed. "Leave." She said, then paused. "Except for you." She pointed to you. You felt a chill creep down your spine as she did.

Everyone else left except you and Burn. She slowly walked towards you. "You're a peculiar dragon. You never pay attention here, and you're always studying every chance you get. Why? What's the point?" She asked, stepping closer. "I have nothing better to do. No one ever talks to me on this council, and I don't have anything to do outside of this council anyway." You explained, feeling a bit nervous. You started to get some kind of feeling within you, a warmth in you.

"Interesting. Why not? Don't your parents ever do anything with you? They seemed to care about you paying attention in the meeting." She went on. "They only want to make sure I don't end up on the end of that tail." You said, nodding to the poisonous barb on her tail. "You won't, as long as you don't annoy me." She mumbled. "Oh, good." You sighed, relief once again coming over you. "You can leave now." She said, turning away. Your heart gave a little leap as you nodded and walked away.

Over the next few days, Burn seemed to be nicer towards you. It was unnatural, but you liked the feeling that it gave you. You enjoyed being around her now. She was all you could think about now as you studied your maps, read your scrolls, and practiced your fighting.
Especially the fighting part. That was where you thought of Burn the most.
Then, one day, something special happened.
"Burn, can I talk to you for a second?"

Something felt odd as you went to talk to Burn. You couldn't describe the feeling, and you didn't know what it was. But you decided to let it continue as you went to talk to her. "What is it, Panther? I'm busy right now." She replied, keeping her head down. "Well...I wanted to let you know about something." You said nervously. She looked up at you, and your heart started being faster. "And that is?" She asked, her voice a little softer. "I...am in love with you." You confessed, looking down to the floor instantly. Even though you didn't look at Burn, you knew she was stepping closer to you. "Panther, look at me." She said.

You looked up to her and met her gaze, her warm smile. She offered her talons and you took them in yours. You were both blushing now. You both stared deep into each other's eyes for what seemed like an eternity. "I feel the same way." She said, not looking away. "Burn..." You started before stopping to think. Then without hesitation, you closed your eyes and pressed your lips against hers, letting all of your worries free. She was surprised at first, but she relaxed. You pulled away, and there was a moment of silence. This was the other side of Burn that you loved, the one that was more kind and understanding. The one that you COULD love. And you would, with all of your heart. "Would you...like to be my mate?" You asked. She stood there, shock written all over her face, before she eased into a smile and took a deep breath.
"Yes."
