Jen's POV

I don't see Colin's jaw drop, nor do I see the surprised raise of Bennett's eyebrows at our reactions, because I'm too busy gaping at Amy. She's too busy staring at Colin to notice me, but she recovers remarkably fast and blinks away the startled look in her eyes.

"Hey, Colin," she says, leaning in for a quick hug that must feel even more awkward than mine and Colin's from an hour ago. She graciously moves on to hug me. "Hi, Jen."

"Hi!" My voice comes out shrill, but most of it is drowned out by the noise around us. Colin and I exchange a glance that is too quick to tell how the other one is feeling, but right after that he does what is appropriate in a social situation and asks her how she's doing. I make use of the opportunity to seize Bennett's arm and pull him backward.

"Amy?" I hiss. "Why didn't you tell me you were seeing each other? And how the hell do you know her?"

Two emotions are currently fighting a battle on Bennett's face: his joy to see Amy and confusion because he wasn't expecting such a strong reaction on our part. He takes another two steps back so we're out of ear shot.

"I met Amy at the same premiere party where I met you," he tells me. "We randomly bumped into each other again last week. And now, well..."

"Now you guys are seeing each other?" I ask. I bite my cheek to stop smiling. It feels like the roles are reversed now.

"Kinda." He's keeping a fairly straight face, but he can't hide the exhilaration in his eyes. "And I'm sorry I didn't tell you about her either. I should have. It's just... it's all still really—"

"New?" I offer.

"Exactly. But what's the big deal with Colin? He looks like he's seen a ghost."

My eyes dart back to the spot where Amy and Colin are making what seems like the most awkward small talk ever, and when Colin glances sideways at me, he's giving me the please-help-me-out-here-because-running-away-would-be-rude look.

"He tried dating Amy last year," I say to Bennett. "Things got kind of awkward when she saw us kissing during his house warming party. I was drunk and emotional," I add, because now he's cocking an eyebrow at me.

"Right." He starts grinning; his shoulders relax, he breathes out and the comfortable look on his face is back. When he leans in closer, he literally has to bend over to be leveled with me. "Just one thing... can I ask the same of you? Can you not tell anyone yet?"

"Of course." Now I'm grinning too, but before he's able to step away and come to Colin's rescue, I put a hand on his shoulder to pull him back down to my level. "Why don't you just tell Josh about her?"

His gaze finds mine again. "I could tell him, but that wouldn't be any fun." There are sparkles in his eyes when he turns his head to say the next few words in my ear. "And this is."

I step away grinning. Bennett casually slides his arm around Amy's waist again, kissing her cheek and flashing a smile at Colin.

"Well, I think we're going to head out," he says. "We have a date planned."

Colin, who still hasn't succeeded in losing the effect of surprise in his eyes, smiles with a little nod. I stick an exact copy of that smile on my face, holding it there until we've said goodbye and they're pushing their way back out of the bar.

"Amy?" Colin says as soon as her bright green (and quite hideous) cardigan has disappeared in the crowd. "Seriously? They're dating?"

"He's asked me not to tell anyone just yet." I guide us back to the table to sit down. On the stage, Ronan is stretching his neck to see what Colin is up to, and I can tell we're running out of time. "They met at the premiere party and they bumped into each other again last week."
