I got this request forever ago. Hope it's good.

I heard the woman long before I could see her. I was standing at the coffee stand where Jethro and I frequently got coffee. I was holding Talia in my arms, one of Nevaeh's hands on my left hip, as I tried paying for my tea and my husband's coffee.

"All I'm saying is, you didn't have to show up unexpectedly like that!" Jethro said. He sounded exasperated.

I turned to get his attention to help me out when I noticed a redhead walking next to him, scowling.

"Hey, babe," he murmured, plamting a kiss on my cheek when he reached us. I stepped aside to let him finish rooting through my wallet to find exact change as I grabbed my tea.

"Sweetie, who's this?" I questioned.

"Diane Sterling," she introduced, sticking a hand out to shake. I placed the to go cup down and shook her hand before adjusting the younger of the 2 girls with me. "You must be Mae."

"That I am. J, weren't you married to..."

"We were married," came his gruff reply.

Diane and I looked at each other. She was a redhead, too. Guess Jethro really didn't grow out of his love of those with that hair color. She had fair skin and hazel eyes.

"Are they your girls, Mae?" The other woman asked, glancing at Nevaeh and Talia.

"Yes. Nevaeh and Talia Fremont-Gibbs." She was silent. "They are Jethro's kids. We're married."

Diane looked at the tall, silver haired man standing between us. Gibbs had a look of bewilderment on his handsome face, probably wondering how his wife and ex wife were getting along so well.

"What?"

I chuckled, cooing to the little one in my arms. "Women can get along just fine, no matter the circumstances, J. You may have had your issues with Diane, but I think she's lovely."

Sighing, the supervisory special agent slumped a little and walked towards the building.

"Well, he seems to have made some progress in the love department," my new companion giggled.

We started walking after Gibbs, and I said to my older daughter, "Nevaeh, Sweetie, keep up. We're going to go see aunty Abby."

As she squealed and bounced after us, I glanced over at Diane. "Yeah, I would say. What're you up to that brings you to the Navy Yard?"
