A few days later, Holly and her mother were out shopping for a Halloween costume for Holly to wear at the upcoming school dance. Holly was so excited. She was looking forward to being able to dress up and hang out with her friends. She used to have so much fun back at her old school. Her parents were happy that she was finally settling down in the new school.
The autumn was in full swing. The sun was shining but it was cold. The ground was awash with colour; yellow, red and orange was all around. The leaves crunched under Holly's feet.
She was missing Kiwi.
She smiled to herself as the odd leaf fluttered to the floor. Holly saw a pile that had been gathered up and could not resist running through them, kicking them up into the air. She felt like a kid again.
Her mother began to laugh and before long Holly was laughing too. For that one moment, she was completely carefree and happy.
"Any ideas what you're going to be for the dance?"
"I was thinking Elvira, but the outfit is slightly too revealing for a school dance, so maybe Morticia or a Disney Princess"
"I like the Disney Princess idea, it's something different to what you usually dress up as", her mother giggled as she brushed the leaves from Holly.
"I guess so, I'll just see what they have at the shop"
"If you don't see anything, I suppose we could always improvise"
"Yeah but I'm not that creative" Holly smiled.
"No, but I am", her mother smiled back.
Holly and her mother had decided to walk through the park/ There were plenty of dog walkers and mums with their toddlers playing in the small park. A small dog came running up to Holly, it was carrying a large stick in its mouth. The dog dropped it at Hollys feet. Holly picked it up to throw. She could see the owner trying to get the dogs attention to return to him, but it was not until Holly threw the stick in the owner's direction did the dog break away from her, the owner then attached the lead to the dog's collar. The dog did not look very happy about this and began to try and sit down. Holly and her mother both giggled at the dog's reaction. The owner waved a thank you and Holly smiled back, but her heart was breaking for kiwi, who was still missing a week later. They walked the rest of the way in silence and enjoyed the scenery.
They arrived at the fancy dress shop and found that quite a few people from Holly's school had the same idea about finding a costume. Her mother left her at the shop to look around while she went to the café opposite.
"Hey Hols" said a voice.
Holly turned around and saw it was Stacey.
"Oh hiya Stace" smiled Holly.
"So, what you going as? I was thinking a cat but looks like little miss stuck up has the same idea", Stacey said as she cocked her head in the direction of Amber.
"That doesn't surprise me, I think I'll go for Snow White"
"Oh does that mean, Lola and co will be your dwarfs?" said Amber sarcastically butting in.
"Private convo" Stacey replied before turning her back on Amber.
"Go away" said Holly as she followed Stacey.
They both heard Amber huff in frustration.
Holly and Stacey walked to the Disney Princess section of the shop. They browsed through the different types of Snow White costumes.
