"So... We are under attack now."
"Was that not made clear?"
"By your people."
"They are no people of mine."
"You are still of their race, however."
"My gods, you make that sound like a bad thing."
"Well, they are trying to kill Thor, so..."
Kari rolled her eyes dramatically at Eydis' statement, suppressing a groan. "Yeah, I get the picture, Eydis. In my defense, I am mainly Vanaheimian. Loki and I were adopted from Jotunheim."
"So, do you have blue skin too?" Eydis asked innocently, which drew a disapproving look from her brother.
"Eydis! It is not polite to ask that," he said sharply.
"She's fine," Kari said with a grin, extending her hand. Blue slowly took over her pale skin, stretching up her arm, along with raised markings on her skin. Thor and Eydis' eyes widened at the sight. "I'm guessing since Laufey was our birth father, we were basically royalty there too. Honestly, I much prefer Vanaheim." She dropped her arm, which returned to its original color.
"So how will we repel this attack?" Eydis questioned, turning to her brother with a serious expression. Kari's grin dropped as she became serious too.
"Without alarming everyone present?" Kari added, to which the other three nodded in agreement.
"Perhaps we can try to negotiate," Loki suggested, and Thor considered it.
"With Frost Giants, that would not work," he said, though he gave both present an apologetic to ease any offense in his words.
"They respect force, not words," Eydis agreed.
"Actually," Kari said, eyes lighting up with an idea. She looked over to Eydis. "If we showed what we were capable of to back up any threats..."
Eydis instantly caught on. "...they would respect that and back off, hopefully."
Loki began nodding, seeing the sense in the idea as he turned to Thor. "Laufey definitely respects force. Kari and Eydis are right. If we threaten them, but then prove that we can do exactly what we say, they will realize you are a king that is not to be threatened or attacked. It would also show them that Vanaheim is fully willing to support you, and our might is second only to yours in the Nine Realms. They would not dare attack with the threat of both realms' retaliation again."
Thor nodded as well, liking the idea. "That is brilliant. One thing, however, remains unsolved."
All three looked at him in curiosity, and he gazed back at them in quiet seriousness.
"How do we show our force?"
Eydis grinned.
"I have an idea."
___
"Laufey! We have come to negotiate!"
The sound of Thor's thundering voice echoed across the Bifrost, deep and threatening in the words it carried. Four white horses were galloping across the Rainbow Bridge, carrying the royals of Asgard and Vanaheim towards the waiting group of tall, blue-skinned attackers that stood in front of the observatory that housed Heimdall. In the front of the attackers stood a taller giant, his eyes gleaming blood red.
Kari made a slight face at his appearance, and told her brother mentally, 'Do we really look like that in our Jotun forms? He is... Ew.'
'Kari, would you be serious?' Loki retorted, though he couldn't help but smirking a little at her comment. 'I believe we do look better, though.'
'I'd better. I have to impress all those boys, you know,' she joked, to which Loki rolled his eyes for the second or third time that day.
'What boys, Kari? You scare them all away.'
'In my defense, I am everything they fear and love at the same time.' She said with a mock proud air, but a grin was on her lips. Loki could only agree, but soon both his attention and hers returned to the matter at hand. Thor reined in his stallion, causing the other three to do the same, but didn't dismount.
"Laufey," he called again, not having received a reply to his first call, "we have come to negotiate with you."
"Negotiate?" The king of Frost Giants scoffed. "Words are for the weak, boy."
"Which is why we will not be exchanging merely words today," Thor returned, and turned ever so slightly to nod at both Kari and Eydis. The goddesses exchanged a wicked grin, before dismounting simultaneously and moving swiftly to stand by their brothers' sides. They wore matching armor, though Kari's was more gold-tinted and Eydis' bright silver. While Kari had chosen to braid her hair, Eydis had left her blonde hair down.
Both looked threatening and playful simultaneously somehow, and they clearly knew it, wicked smirks playing over their lips as they faced Laufey.
"What is this?" Laufey demanded, eyes narrowing. He could sense that something unexpected was about to happen that he didn't have control over. "Do not play games with me, boy."
"Oh, I am not, I assure you," Thor said, and now a smirk was on his lips too.
"We demand single combat," Eydis called, her sapphire eyes gleaming. "I believe that's a custom among your people that cannot be ignored."
"True," Laufey said with a grin, "but only if a royal family member issues the challenge, which means I do not have to accept."
"Laufey, meet my sister, Crown Princess Eydis Odindottir of Asgard," Thor responded instantly, "and heir to the royal throne."
Laufey's expression changed instantly, and he was about to speak, when Loki cut him off before he could even begin.
"And this is my sister, Crown Princess Kari of Vanaheim and, of course, heir to the royal throne." Loki paused as Laufey's eyes widened, then added with a smirk, "And your daughter, which makes her princess of Jotunheim as well."
"Which means you have no choice but to accept our challenge," Kari called cheerfully, exchanging another grin with Eydis. "If we lose, you may have Asgard and Vanaheim without the threat of our armies. If we win, you draw out of Asgard with the promise to never to try to invade either ever again."
"So send two of your best warriors out so we can get this started with already," Eydis added. "Or worst ones, it really matters naught to us."
"Either way, we will win," Kari claimed.
Laufey's eyes darkened in anger as he stared at his newfound daughter and Eydis, then he turned to his army, calling out two names. The giants stepped forward instantly to his side, and Laufey turned back to Kari and Eydis.
"Very well," he spat, venom dripping from his tone that did nothing to frighten either goddess, "your challenge is accepted. Which princess wishes to die first?" His emphasis on the word 'princess' only amused Kari and Eydis, who looked at each other.
"I will."
