We arrive one the scene. The sleek black car pulling into the centre.
The guys still are holding me in custody as we climb out the car. Pete keeps a strict eye on me.
The silence and tension is bone crushing. I can feel them waiting for someone to make the first move.
I take a chance, whipping out the first stake and throwing it straight into a vampire. Light emits from the stake and he collapses.
Everything breaks then. People start killing and fighting in a split second. I run away from the guys towards another pack of vampires, whipping my wrist around and throwing the stakes into the hearts of almost every vampire.
My breath is thin as I have to duck and dive to stay alive. My heart pounds and I smile because, this isnt half bad.
"Lacey!" Patrick yells breathlessly. "Duck!"
I fall to the floor as a huge spear flies over me. As I lie on the floor I work out where I am. We are outside my shop, and I have my keys. As the guys sort out the last dozen fighters I sprint for my life, diving into the shop and locking the door behind me.
My breath stutters as I slide down the back of the door, sitting on the floor. They could probably see my through the glass store front. They cant get me now, Im free and safe.
Im not unlocking the door for them. Theyll go away, I bet.
I lean my face in my hands, letting myself finally relax. I make myself a coffee and sit down at one of the tables. I cant believe they havent noticed that Ive gone.
"Where is she?" I hear a voice growl from outside.
I bite onto my lip, they cant see me.
"Ill kill you all. Tell me where she is." Its Pete.
Im seated right by the window. I count the numerous bodies slumped on the floor. Pete kicks a body out the way to try and find me, the other guys standing, gobsmacked.
Petes angry turns into desperation. I can see the sweat on his temples. Suddenly his eyes connect with mine and I let my lips curl into a grin. He runs up to the glass, putting his hand flat up against it.
"Lacey. Come outside." He orders me.
I take a sip of the coffee, I am going nowhere.
Deep in his angry eyes I see a spark of desperation. I have him in my control.
"Im not leaving until you come out." Pete says stubbornly.
I smirk, he will get cold.
"Patrick, Joe, Andy, Im staying until she comes out."
The guys walk over and kneel by Pete.
"Cant we just go?" Andy asks.
"We need her. I need her."
He places his palm on the glass, desperate to reach me.
"Did you see how many vampires she killed? She could kill William, get this over with."
I lean back in my chair, sipping on my coffee, this is entertaining. Patrick seems to understand the cryptic message Pete just mentioned to Patrick.
"We need her."
Pete seems more helpless than angry and harmful now. I almost pity him as he kneels on the pavement outside the shop.
They turn to look at me and I shrug, I dont care, to be honest.
"Can you at least get us coffee?" Joe asks.
I shrug again, a grin plastered on my face. They are going to let me free.
Pete slams his hand half heartedly on the glass. My eyes avert from his, fixing on the floor.
"Lacey, please. I beg. You are one of the only ones capable of killing William, or at least helping me kill him." Pete is close to tears.
I look back up at him, he seems heart broken.
"And-and after, you can go home. I just want you to help us kill him. Please?"
Petes eyes are red and the guys are staring at me. What do I say? Yes? No?
I look away, back at the floor.
"Pete just spilled his heart, who would have thought it?" Patrick chuckles sadly.
A tear glints on Petes face like a diamond.
Pete keeps my eyes fixed on his. It cant be that bad. What was I running from?
I snap my gaze from his, he was using his powers against me.
"Please. We need you. I need you." Pete almost sobs.
"With conditions." I mumble just loud enough to hear through the glass.
Petes eyes light up, making me want to smile.
"Im allowed freedom and freedom completely straight after William is dead... Properly."
"Limited freedom. Complete freedom once Williams dead. Its something to work for." Pete says.
"And respect. I want respect."
They all look at each other and shrug.
I throw my last sip of coffee in the bin and walk at the door, keys out in front of me. I open the door and am greeted by a cold breeze and the guys arms.
They all grab me in a hug and I stagger back from the weight.
"Thank you." Pete whispers in my ear.
