Im walking again, nightmare worn off, last stage, I guess. Its about time Im better, the others are ready to go back.
The last stage is just head and stomach aches, I think.
Im training again and regaining muscles. Its hard to go back.
"Guys, are you ready? Someone needs us!" Patrick yells.
No, Im not ready, but I go anyway. We clamber in the car, the norm. Everyone seems the same, theres just a gap now between me and Pete, where Joe was.
"All anger and anxiety into killing them, okay?" Patrick whispers through grit teeth.
Okay.
We pull up, I recognise William. The gang is here too, smaller, but here.
Im out the car before it stops. Im running at William and he smiles to greet me. I keep eye contact and throw a stake, making the vampire next to him a kebab on a stick.
Suddenly his hands are up and I stop walking, dropping one of my stakes.
Stupid stupid.
I walk so light on my feet that Im almost flying. I arrive by his side.
Stupid stupid.
He hands me to another vampire like Im a possession. Im not a possession. Im light headed and under his spell.
Stupid stupid.
I remember the nail polish bottle I have in my pocket. It would poison him if I put it in his meal or water. When its not in the solution, its lethal.
I shake my head, Im back. He let me go by mistake.
I sprint out, diving onto the back of a vampire. I impale him, by his spine. The light this time almost blinds me.
"You got the beta." Patrick says, giving me a hand up.
"I what?" I ask.
"The beta. The second in command. Someone is free now."
"Oh."
Patrick is gone again and we are all fighting.
Someone runs at me and I use a stake to stab and push vampires out the way. The vampire runs into my stake, pushing me over. I grunt as I collide with the floor, a dead vampire on top of me. They are dead already though, arent they?
I pull myself up and engage in a fist fight with another. I can feel my face swell as I throw another punch, to the throat. It gags and I take the chance to stab it, drilling it into its stomach. The light that Im now used to emits. Its a light blue and could be pretty, if I hadnt have just killed someone.
Suddenly something hits my stomach and I drop. A stake flies over my head as I collapse to the floor. Its a punch, that was hard. Theres a hand on my back.
Then, everything stopped.
I dont mean everything went into slo mo, or I make eye contact with the love of my life and everything becomes better. I didnt get lost in someones eyes. Nobody stopped mid air, hovering on an invisible pedestal. Everything just stopped.
It went black. Im sure my eyes are open, but its black. I swear Im conscious.
Im plummeted onto the floor that I once knew. The floor of the vampires that arent my friends.
"Only can use that once a month... Probably shouldnt have wasted that..." William grins.
I look up from the floor at him.
"Theyll come for you, and Ill kill them."
I look back down, waiting to be taken to a cage or tied up or something.
"Take a seat." He gestures to the sofa. "We have about two hours until they get here. Just enough time to fit in this movie I bought last week!"
I sit down slowly, confused. He sits close, next to me.
Whats with vampires and hunters and movies?
Whilst the movie plays I have time to think.
I chose to fight vampires... Or maybe I didnt... But the guys did. They chose to do this and some people are just thrown into it. A quote from a book rings in my head. "Make the biggest mistake you can think to make." "the biggest mistakes lead to the biggest adventures."
Maybe they do. This was a mistake and look what Im doing now. Maybe its not as big as Columbus sailing to the edge of the world, but its a big enough mistake to trigger adventure. I smile, Im throwing myself into adventure. Maybe adventure is better than my original, boring, life.
I smile to myself. I have real friends and a real life. Its something I can tell kids when Im older. Thats if I live that long. The best part of an adventure being the suspense and putting your life out. The rush.
Theres a snore. Williams mouth is wide open, his head leaning back. If I stand he will wake. I pull the little bottle from my pocket and hover it over his mouth. I drop a couple of drops inside his mouth and he lets them drip down his throat.
I hide the bottle away and lean over on his shoulder, pretending to be asleep. Suddenly theres a sizzling and he wakes up.
"Oh wow I feel so..." He says.
He stands and sprints out the room. Theres a vomiting sound. I vomited for almost an hour. I should have at least half an hour.
"Pause the movie, when Im back we will finish it!"
I chuckle, opening the door quietly. I speed out and, shutting the door behind me, sprint down the road.
I follow the sound of people and eventually make it to a main road. Its the road about 4 blocks away from my shop. Therefore 10 blocks from where the fighting was. I could run it. The guys may still be there.
I run at full speed down the road, they must be here somewhere?
