*Rowan's POV*
I don't know how a mother could do this to her children. Put them in a situation where they have to flee from her just to be safe. I put my head on Gen's shoulder and couldn't stop the tears from flowing.
I felt so bad because I should be holding her while she cried and I couldn't even pull myself together for it. Wiping my face, I look up to see Gen not even phased by this. I guess that's what happens when you deal with this for your whole life.
"I'm okay Ro, really." I brush her hair out of her face and nod. "I'm gonna stay here tonight, and there is no way for you to talk me out of it." I lean my head against hers and stare at her. I see her bite her lip as she said "Liam has a play date today with coach's son. He said that he wants to keep him tonight so I could have a break."
Even though I was really looking forward to hanging out with Liam, I would like alone time with her too. I guess I was too into my thoughts because she touched my cheek and I lightly jumped. Giggling she sarcastically said "Off in wonderland again Alice?"
Softly smirking I quickly replied "Oh yes Hatter, so sorry for that." Liam then started bouncing on his legs. "I read him Alice In Wonderland all the time. So he get excited when he hears her name" I watched as Gen picked him up and tickled him and gives him raspberries. I join in on the tickling until all you could hear was his precious laugh.
After a good 10 minutes, Gen got up and packed Liam a bag and got him ready. "Now Liam you know the rules at coach's house. You listen to what he says. You go to bed with no fussing. And I love you sooooo much" watching her hug him tightly and rock him around felt like the most uplifting thing I've ever seen. Even through all this terrible shit, the love they have for each other over powers all of it.
When we take Liam over to Coach's house, he had a talk with Gen about, well her bruises. She reassured him that everything was okay and that I was staying there tonight. It really didn't ease his worry, but it was they best out of what they had. I can see he really cares about her. Gen's really tense with him touching her though, but she was the same with me too at first.
I saw that leaving Liam even with Coach, Gen still had a hard time letting go. The ride back was silent, but I didn't mind too much. I kinda like silence, with the right person. Gen is that right person for me. I've learned that over the past month. Even though I haven't learned a lot.
Once we push open the front door we get a wave of heat. "Son of a bitch!" Going over to the air conditioning, Gen hits it a couple times, but still nothing happens. "Gen, go open the windows. I'll see what I can do." I watch her go around opening the windows and I turn my attention to the conditioner.
After 30 mins I'm still working on this damn thing. Only thing that changed was I'm wearing a pair of Gens shorts and my sports bra. "Fuck this!!" I screamed as I hit it hard as shit. "Hey, calm down. We'll get a draft in soon. Let's just go lay down."
We make it to her room and lay down on the bed. I rested against the headboard while Gen was handing off the end of the bed. Gen stripped to her bra and underwear on our way to the room, but she had an oversized flannel on. I bit my lip and stared at her. "Genny." She picked her head up and softly smiles "Yeah RoRo?" Softly laughing I curl my finger into the come here motion. Watching her get up and crawl over to me, I playfully jump on top of her and tickle her.
"Rowannnn!! Uncle! Uncle!!" Stoping, I realize I'm inches from her face. "You're such a silly girl Gen" I booped her nose and giggled. "You're silly Ro". Getting closer I stare at her lips.
I didn't expect her to grab the back of my neck and smash her lips into mine, but the chills running up and down my spine barely covered how I was feeling. The kiss ended before I wanted it to. I softly groaned and jumped when Gen cupped her hand over my mouth hard.
I got frightened when Gen put her finger to her lips signing me to be quiet. She quickly helped me up and shoved me in her closet and rushed to put on clothes and acted asleep. I didn't understand any of it until her mother slammed the door open. "I know for a fact you aren't sleeping when my dishes aren't fucking done" I had to hold myself back when her mother grabbed a fist full of Gens hair and dragged her out of bed.
"I will mama I promise. I'm sorry." That seemed to only make her mother even more angry. "You're damn right, but next time I won't have to tell you" Right before she went to strike Gen I opened the closet and grabbed her hand tightly. "You won't land a hand on her" Shoving her back, I kneeled down and cups Gen's face to make sure she was okay.
That's when her mother tackled me on the floor. Slamming my head on the way down. I could barely see straight between the tears and the pain in my head. I couldn't stay awake for long. The last thing I saw was Gen trying to pull her off.
