"Well, who would have guessed?" Alec said, staring down at the little village below them. They were atop of a cliff, out of the forest. Just below was a little village, where he could spot some human residents, a good sign. "How'd you know there was a village here?"
"I told you," The girl replied. "I just feel it. This is where we wanted to go, right?"
"Yea, it's exactly where we needed to go," Alec told her, still staring down below. He took her hand, leading her down the steep cliff to the village. And this girl, she's been more comfortable around Alec for sure. In just a night, she's went from go having the eyes to a dead fish, to a fish who can crack a smile once in a while. Hey, that's improvement, isn't it?
Eventually, they got to the village, walking around it aimlessly, receiving looks from some of the kids. Alec paused for a minute. Were the citizens hostile? The parents were staring at them too. No, they welcomed him with open arms.
"Hello," Said a woman in her early 20's, sitting in front of her house along with what seems to be her family. "What brings you to our humble, little village?" She was accompanied by a man and a little boy, the boy had a big grin on his face. He reminded Alex of his nephew. His adorable, little nephew.
"Hi, my name's Alec," Alec told them, holding the girl's hand alongside him. "I'm just a traveler looking for someone, and this girl," He said, motioning to the girl beside him, "Is a girl I found in the forest up there, above the cliff. Do you guys know her?"
The woman paused, staring at the girl, as if trying to remember. "I...umm..."
"You might want to go speak with Nora about this matter," Said the man beside her. She knows more about anything then anyone here,"
The man was kind enough to lead the way. As they walked, Alec noticed how poor this village was. The ripped clothes, lack of resources, the houses looked older then Alec's, and that sure wasn't possible. But the place was overfilled with life. The families were close, and the members were smiling. In a way, it looked lovely.
The house where Nora lived in was surprisingly nicer then the other houses. Who was Nora anyways? She was an old, old woman, sitting in a rocking chair in the middle of the room. "Markus, who are these people?" She asked he man who lead Alec and the girl here.
"They say they are travelers. They need some help, do I brought them here. After all, you always know what to do," Markus replied, smiling. He bowed to the old woman, then left.
Alec stood there, confused for a moment. "I'm Alec, I'm just...a traveler. I'm looking for The One Who Sends Miracles. Do you know of her? Or him?"
Nora didn't reply for a minute. "I do," She said in a low, soft voice.
"Really? Where is she? A-Are you her?"
"No," Nora replied, smiling. "But I can see it,"
"You..can see it..." The girl said, surprising Alec. She was staring at the woman with those big blue eyes of hers. "You can see presences,"
"I can," Nora said, staring at the unusual girl with silver hair and bright, blue eyes. "I'm surprised you figured it out so easily! Who might you be, little girl?"
Alec put his hand on the girl's shoulder. "This girl," He said. "I found her in the forest. Does she by any chance belong to this village?"
"A lost girl!" Nora said, her eyes wide open. "In the woods out there, all alone?" Alec nodded in reply as Nora stared into the girl's eyes. "No, she doesn't belong here for sure. If she has, I would have known," Alec sighed. What was he going to do then?
"So what do you mean by sensing presences?" Alec asked, getting back on topic.
The old woman slowly closed her eyes. "I can tell exactly who you are, your personality, your feelings. It's my power. I can sense every single being and know who they really are," Opening them again, she smiled and said, "That's why I know you two are good people,"
"But you can't use that power to find The One Who Sends Miracles?" Alec asked.
Shaking her head, Nora replied. "That is beyond my reach,"
Alec sighed. "Well, thanks anyways," He looked at the girl beside him. "Then can you perhaps take her in?"
The girl looked as surprised as the woman. "Take her in? But why?"
"I'm on a mission, in case you didn't notice," Alec said calmly. "It could be dangerous, and I really don't think I should take her with me. Could you please take her, let her live in this village with you?"
"But the girl..." Nora, said, looking wide-eyed at the girl, who stared back. "She's...grown attached to you,"
"What?" Alec said, generally surprised. "Are you sure? I've only been with her for a day, there's no way she can grow that much attached to me,"
The girl tugged on his shirt. "I'm not staying here with strangers, I want to go with you,"
"But I am a stranger," Alec replied, frustrated. "You barely know me,"
"But I do know you," She argued. "You're Alec,"
Alec, despite feeling touched, sighed once again. This girl needs some serious education.
Nora, who was waiting patiently, finally spoke out. "I see why you don't want to being her, but let's wait a while before we make a final decision. You two stay here for a couple of days, and if you don't change your mind, we'll take her into our little village,"
"But I'm on a time limit here," Alec blurted out.
"Yea, yea. Now get your butts back to Markus's house. His family owns an inn there where you two can stay. And I don't want to see you sneaking out at night either,"
Alec obediently started walking back to Markus's house, holding the girl's hand along side with him.
"Hey, Alec," The girl said.
"Hmm? What is it? Are you gonna be more talkative and say how you want to come with me or something?" Alec teased.
"No. Well yes. But it's something different," She frowned. "Why do you keep calling me 'this girl' or 'that girl'?"
Alec raised an eyebrow and smirked. "Because you don't have a name. You told me that yourself yesterday, remember?"
"Then give me a name! I wanna be called something too,"
Alec looked at her, a surprised look on his face. "What? Why me?"
"You're basically my guardian," She replied bluntly.
"I told you," Said Alec, slightly annoyed that this should continue. "I'm basically a stranger, you don't know what I'm capable of,"
"I do know though," The girl said, her blue eyes staring at him. "You're a nice man,"
"How do you know," Alec said, looking away. "Can you read presences too, like Nora?" She did find the village just a few hours ago, which was pretty unusual. It wouldn't be surprising, Alec has met people with powers in the past. Until he moved away of course, to a little cabin.
"No, I'm different," The girl replied. "It's strange, but I can just tell..." She stared off into the distance, pondering.
Alec was still a little confused. "But back towards your name thing," He said, still not looking at her. "You should do this whole name thing yourself. It's your name, so it can't be right that I should choose for you. I'm sure you'd understand why,"
He found the house where Markus was, sitting on the front porch. Alec walked towards it, still holding the girl's hand. He looked down at her, and it was obvious on what she was doing.
She was in deep, deep thought. Obviously, it seems she was thinking about her name. Her brand new name, that will stick with her until the end.
