"And tell me again why I have to treat a boy, no, a thief, to dinner?" Alec asked Aria with a concerned look on his face. "We have a limited amount of cash, you know,"
"Why not?" She replied back. "Would you rather have him steal food off of people with a bow and arrow, or treat him with a nice meal?"
She has a good point.
They were walking down the streets, looking for a nice place to have a meal. Surprisingly, the boy, Dane, came along. He was quiet, but obedient. He hasn't tried attacking anyone yet. He kept hidden under his cloak, covering his face. He even had a spell on, to blacken his face, for even more protection.
Alec just wanted to yank the thing off him...
"Is it here?" Dane asked, looking at the restaurant they were in front of. Aria walks right into the building. Reluctantly, Dane and Alec followed from behind.
"Hmm, this is actually a nice place!" Alec said with his mouth agape, looking around as he sat in his seat. "Hopefully the bill won't be too expensive,"
"Not a problem for me," Dane said. "You guys are paying for my meal,"
Yes, Aria had to bribe him to come with us. Turns out this brat was a cheapskate.
"Now tell me," Aria said quietly while eating her meal. "Why must you kill me? I don't think I did anything wrong"
"You wanted to kill her?" Alec asked, glaring at Dane. He paid no attention to Alec, which was upsetting.
"Because you saw," Dane said. "There's no denying it, I'm sure you saw...my features. I'm fine with being announced as a thief, which could be solved simply by me running away from this village. But what you saw is of much more importance,"
"So what if I did?" Aria asked, looking up at the guy. "What's wrong with knowing you're-,"
"Shut up!" Dane yelled out, causing commotion around the other tables. He grabbed a hold of Aria's wrist and yanked her outside. Alec got up from his seat and rushed towards them. Dane then slowed down, and suddenly stopped when they were a good distance away. He then turned and stared at Aria. "Don't you dare tell a single soul,"
"What's wrong with it?!" Aria yelled at him. "There's nothing to be ashamed about!"
"There isn't," Dane glared from under his hood, face still covered up. "But because this is the world we live in, I need to survive. And the only way to survive is to keep my appearance secret,"
"What's...going on?" Alec asked. Both were quiet now, and Alec was left a confused idiot. He stared at Dane's face. Sure, it was obvious the boy wasn't normal, but if he isn't, just what was he?
Dane moved his head towards Alec, and Alec could feel a chill go up his spine. "Nothing, this conversation is over," He said. Briskly, he started walking away into the crowd.
"It's not over..." Aria mumbled under her breath, and even beside her, Alec could barely make out what she was saying. She clenched her teeth. "It's not over until I say it's over!" She yelled, and pulled his hood off from behind, breaking his spell. He didn't expect it at all, so turned around and stared at her with his wide open, pale blue eyes once more.
"What...did you just do?!" He screamed, grabbing her shoulders.
And Alec saw. What all the commotion was about. And apparently, so did others.
No wonder he was trying to hide it. His looks were unusual. His eyes were too white to be normal, and his hair, now more noticeably, has a certain glow to it. But the most surprising feature was his ears. They were long and huge. And there's only one known species with ears like that.
He was an elf.
"You ruined it!" Dane burst out. "My death is for certain. Are you an idiot?! Revealing someone like me to everyone!"
*********
Alec has heard of a certain war before, taking place between all the different worlds. It was a war between humans and elves. The humans hated the elves. And out of pure hatred, they burned down the villages owned by the elves. Every single one, in svery single world. Alec heard that they were burned to the ground. That there were no survivors left.
*********
"Ah, I see," Alec mumbled to himself.
Elves are hated, in this world too.
"You don't know what it's like," He yelled, bursting into tears. "To be the very last of my kind means that I have to survive for as long as I can to avenge their deaths. I have to do this. I need to survive, for them!"
Surviving cause they didn't get the chance to. Because they were burned to death by the greed of humans. Land, wealth, humans are selfish creatures.
"You don't have to try so hard anymore," She said with a smile. "Come with us,"
"What...?" Dane said, his eyebrows raised.
"You won't have to be alone, you'll have people to care about. We can be your family! So let's travel the world together!" She stretched her arms out, and gave him a smile. It was...tempting.
"I won't," He said simply, looking away. "I don't know if your like them, the humans who burned down my village. That's why, I won't trust a single soul anymore."
"Dane," Aria said, surprising him. "It's okay now," The girl seemed to shine again. "They understand, your family and friends. They want you to be happy, not grief over their deaths. You've done more then enough to live for them. Now live for yourself,"
He killed them. The humans he found who were involved with the fire. He shot most of them to death. But this isn't what he wanted, he just wanted his family back. Why did they leave him alone? In the cruel world that hates elves.
Why didn't they take him, too? Then he wouldn't have to feel this grief of losing his beloved ones.
Dane sobbed his eyes out. "I had to avenge them. My family. Their deaths! Is it really okay? Will I be forgiven for not avenging them all the way?"
She gave him a smile that seemed to glow in everlasting goodness. It was proof she believed. She believed he has done his best. It made his eyes tear up all over again. He slowly walked over to her and squeezed her little body tight.
"Was it good enough?" He asked in a little whisper.
She was quiet for a minute. But Aria reached out and patted his back. "It was," She replied, her eyes closed and smiling.
"Yea," Dane thought to himself. "I think I can trust someone like her."
"Break it up," Alec said, watching from the sidelines along with the crowd surrounding them. Most of them were crying. Not all humans are evil, after all. There was compassion in their tears, for this elf. He walked over to the two of them and pulled Dane apart.
Dane looked at him, flustered. Alec sighed and smiled at the boy. Then he ruffled his hair in a friendly manner. "Welcome to the crew,"
Tears still stuck in his eyes, Dane looked up at the man with surprise, then gave a warm smile. "Yep, they can be trusted." He thought. He won't be alone anymore.
"Sir, sir!" Said a man wearing a white top and black pants running toward the group. Coming closer, they realized he was a waiter at that restaurant they went to. The group stared as the little man in a suit came running at them. He finally caught up, and was breathless.
"You can't...leave...without paying....your bill!"
