Demi-dog brains splattered across my face as I bashed its head in. There were almost to many for us to handle. I looked over at Jonah and he was setting up the device to detonate it. I got distracted by looking at him and a demi-dog jumped on top of me. The bat was locked in his mouth and it couldn't bite down to get me. Hot saliva ran across my face as Ii fought back to it off of me. Nate tackled it off of me and did a fireman's carry to roll it on its back. Tossed him the bat and he hit the creature several times so it could stop moving. There were too many of them for us to handle. Even though we took out a few, there were still tons that ran past us and jumped through the portal.
I sprinted cross the grass over to Jonah, he was struggling to set up the device so I helped him. We pulled each piece out and start connected the parts. Once we put the last piece together and it started to power up we called for everyone to jump back through the portal. I didn't want to leave Jonah behind but I knew we already agreed he would stay. I waited for the other to jump in. The demi-dogs followed them through, but I knew they could handle it.
Once Jonah and I were the last two wished him well. "Looks like this is it..." I said.
"Yeah, I guess..." He sighed.
We shook hands. With his left hand he grabbed my wrist and out his right hand behind his back. "I've got to give you something." he said. Then in swift movement he handcuffed me to the device and ripped out a wire. He laughed for a short while but quickly developed a horrible cough. He bent over and started to spit up some black stuff then turned back towards me.
"This all went according to plan. You, the device, the demi-dogs. It was too easy."
I began to notice that the demi-dogs didn't attack us, mostly him. They still came up close and barked in my face but they did nothing to Jonah. I tried to pull my hand out of the handcuffs but each time I tried a demi-dog would bark in my face, and spit hot saliva all over my face.
"Don't even try," he grunted. "I threw away the key awhile ago. Sit stay awhile as your world gets destroyed."
"What?! Why are you doing this." That line was cliche.
He said nothing. Jonah slowly turned his back towards me and faced the pond. Reaching out his hands I felt the ground shake. The pond was slowly getting bigger and more demi-dogs were jumping through. There was nothing I could do.
At that moment I accepted failure. Jonah had won. We played right into his hands. He had us beat. He disconnected the device. I couldn't get free to stop him, demi-dogs were up in my face scaring the living crap out of me. But just as I thought as if It was over. A woman came from out of nowhere and shoved Jonah down. She grabbed the last piece of the device and connected them. She was moving so fast that I couldn't get a clear look at her. He had a key and unlocked my handcuffs. Jonah raised back out off the ground, his head was bleeding, he must have hit a rock. The woman grabbed my arm and we ran together towards the portal. She held the device in the other hand. When we got close to the portal she hit the button and dropped threw the device across the grass. Jonah had to stop chasing us and ran towards the device. Before I could see what happened next I plunged in the water and my vision faded to black.
