The terrible sound of the bell ruined my deep slumber. My head shot up straight and my eyes were wide open. In my chest my heart pounded, blood rushed to my limbs as I woke up. "Oh crap." I thought. Dr. Davis probably caught me sleeping in his class. My head was tilted all the way back, my mouth was open. I probably snored too. I didn't want to go to Nikolai's office. Hundreds of excuses crossed my mind to think of a way to get me out of this situation.
"I wasn't sleeping, I was just resting my eyes. I mean, I was-I was..."
But I realized that no one was in the classroom. I thought maybe that was the second bell and I had missed the first bell. But no one was moving outside the classroom. I stood up and grabbed my backpack and headed out the door. Backpacks were spread down the hall of the 400s, papers were scattered everywhere, pencils and pens were in my way and laptops covered the floor. I saw a pen on the ground and picked it up. That was something I needed for Dr. G's test tomorrow, if I use a pencil, I might get a lecture on cows...As I walked down the hallway I turned back and saw the camera on the ceiling and waved to Mrs. Kirsch, and hoped she didn't see me steal that pen. All the classrooms were messy, and no one was around.
Eventually I made it to the front desk and still no one was in sight. The school was in ruins. I took my phone out and texted a couple of my friends asking where they were, it was only fourth period. I waited in the lobby for about three minutes then headed to the 200s. In each classroom I saw no one. But desks were flipped over, writings were on the wall, it was terrible. I kept going down to the 100s and by this time I started to believe that I was alone. Checking rooms again, still no one, I whistled. When I came to the bookstore I went in and looked around Mrs. Willman wasn't there, nor a volunteer. I grabbed a cookie and slid it slowly in my backpack watching my back. Then I quickly walked out. (Mr. Nickolai, I'm sorry I stole the cookie, but I was hungry...)
I walked up to the teacher's offices and called out.
"Hello?!" I cried. No answer. I stood at the border to the teacher's offices. If I got caught stepping across that line, I was a dead man. But I did it anyway. I raised my foot with no going back and lowered it slowly. With one leg in the air I heard "Suarez"
I turned around and saw Mr. Bussen walking away from Father Gregory's office. He moaned and walked with a slight limp. "Suarez" he said again. I turned around and started following him. But quickly turned back stepped in the teacher's offices then ran after him. I turned the corner to see a group of teachers with glowing blue eyes looking at me. They moaned my name and Mr. Bussen moaned Suarez, they looked at him. He looked back in confusion then came to his senses, and moaned my name.
I sprinted through their offices out to the senior/teacher lounge. I wasn't clear yet. They started marching down the hall after me. I knew of only one place to hide.
