You Promised

A Day To Remember

"Excuse me miss I couldn't help but notice you standing there looking so fine." Wrapping his hands around Diana. It's early morning, sunlight glared through the kitchen window.

       "I really hate the fact that you need to work weekends, you know my company is looking for more drivers, come work with me we have weekends off."

       "That's sweet Richard but I love what I do, helping people is my passion." Diana plants a peck on his lips as she walked towards the front door grabbing her keys and jacket in each hand, "love you baby."

       Running down the stairs an eager twelve year old Danny freshly awoken from bed, "dad it's Saturday today is the day you said we'd go to the park, father son day."

       "Wait that was today really hold on let me check my calendar make sure, you're not lying."

       "Dad stop it, it is the day you promised."

       Danny's dad smiled,"ok...ok go get ready go wash up I know you ain't even brush your teeth either go."

       Danny excitedly obliged running up the stairs.
   
       Moments later he ran back down stairs jumping over the last couple steps, gym bag in hand, wearing a baseball cap, over his short haircut, black t shirt, faded blue jeans, over his light skin skinny body frame. Complexion from being mixed half white half black.

       "Alright dad I'm ready let's go."

       "Hold on there roadrunner did you eat breakfast, take out the garbage?" Danny flopped down in his kitchen chair pouring a bowl of cereal eating it quickly, then grabs the garbage takes it out into the front lawn.

     "Can we go now dad I took a shower, brushed my teeth, had a bowl of cereal, and took out the trash."

       "Can we go!"

       "I was waiting for you what took you so long let's go."

      They walked outside the front door towards their car parked out front along the street, with palm trees on either side of the street in the suburbs of California.

       Danny is extremely close to his dad, his mom being the disciplinarian while his dad the fun carefree parent.

      "So Danny you're the boss today we go where you choose to go, it's your Choice."

       "it's my choice so if I say I want to go to the movies, then to the park finished up by ice cream you'd say?"

       "I'd say what movie, hope you brought your baseball gear, and what flavor ice cream?"

       That put a huge smile on Danny's face, " I say we watch Racing Night, I got my baseball gear right here in my bag, and chocolate."

       "Alright then let's go." Just like that they were off a day of excitement, and father son bonding awaits them.

       "Wow look dad the movie theater looks empty today we might have the whole movie to ourselves." They walked in got there tickets at the ticket booth, and grabbed some snacks before heading towards there movie.

       "What do you say to the nice lady Danny."

       "Thank you, ok let's go the movie is going to start soon." He ran ahead so he could look for their movie amongst the line up of movies. "Dad it's over here come on hurry."

       Richard had the biggest grin on his face as he watched Danny rush, even tho they still had fifteen minutes before the movie would start.

       They Walked into the dark room it was pretty much empty besides a couple sitting in the middle row, Danny and his dad took a seat in the back row.

       "The movie was awesome dad did you see those cars, I want a car just like that when I grow up." Danny full of excitement and energy after watching the street racing movie, can't stop talking about it on the walk to the car.

       "Ok so where to next Danny park or ice cream your choice it's your day."
