The rest of the day passes in a blur. I tuned out most of Ashley talking about the sun coming out, droned through a lecture about the human anatomy, and had to sit behind Tommy Toots. He really lives up to his name.
"Alright so next class we will be doing blood testing." Mr Burr my science teacher said as everyone filed out of the classroom.
I walked out to the parking lot waiting for Alice like she told me to. I looked around hoping to see her and not one of her siblings, the other girl Rosalie, isn't that bad but the others (the boys) I try to limit contact with them. Cars started pouring out of the parking lot, slowly looking like a ghost town. I waited, and waited, and waited a little longer. But with every passing minute I lost a little bit more hope she would show up.
But finally after half an hour, I slowly walked home trying my hardest not to cry. This is why I don't let people in, become their friend, they always find a way to let me down somehow. As my house came into view my spirits dropped even lower. Parked next to Charlie's cruiser was a orange rusty truck. I cringed slightly not wanting to see anyone but at the same time I wanted to leap with joy; guests mean I'm eating good tonight.
"Why are you so late?" Charlie's voice asked. I looked up to see an older fellow in a wheelchair along with a teenage boy with short brown hair.
"I had to talk with a teacher about a project." I lied smoothly.
"Well welcome home then." What kind of fuckery is this? I wish I had gotten that on a record because I am sure I will never hear those words ever again. Deciding not to push my luck I forced a smile and hurried to my room.
A tear escaped eyes and with single tear its like the flood gates burst open. I know I shouldn't be crying over this but I thought Alice actually liked me. I guess not.I calmed down after a while and read one of my favorite books.
My door opened awhile later, Charlie's head popping in. "I'm going to Billy's. Be good." To anyone else it sounds like a parent telling a kid something every parent says. But I caught the underlying threat: Stay in your room, don't leave, don't do anything or you'll regret it.
I waited five, ten, even twenty minutes before taking the ten dollars I found in my school bag out. I left my window cracked before slipping out the back door. I ran through the outskirts of the woods in case someone saw me. I stopped in front of the only bakery in Forks. Jim's parents own the bakery so everything is half off for me.
The bell chimed as I walked in. Jim's mom was behind the counter writing something in a book.
"Hi Kat!!" I said as she looked up and smiled at me.
"Hi darling. What can I do for you?" She smiled.
"I want as many upside down pineapple cupcakes I can buy with ten dollars." I said slapping the bill down on the counter.
"That my dear will get you two dozen. Lemme ask Pete if he has another dozen in the back." She walked into the back jabbering with Pete. She came back out with a box after a minute and placed it on top of the other box. "Here you are dear. Don't eat these all at once, do come back soon."
"Thanks Kat, I will. Tell Jim I said hi for me please. Have a nice night." I smiled walking out.
As I was walking up the driveway I heard Charlie's cruiser turning onto the street. I ran around the side of the house where I left a rope hanging out my window. I tied the bottom of the rope around the boxes when I heard him pull up in the drive way. I climbed up the house with my feet walking up the wall. I got into my room as I heard the front door slam. My heart pounded in my chest as I brought up the cupcake boxes. I closed my window after throwing the boxes still attached to the rope into my closet. I sat down on my bed opening a book to a random page as my door opened.
