BACKSTORY

Harry was born in 1988 to his mother and father. The two had lived in England for as long as he could remember, but his classmates still treated him as though he was a foreigner. Legally, his name was Harri, but he refused to use it.

Harry didn't remember a time when his father didn't beat him. He beat the boy, day after day, night after night, while his mom sat silently. Sometimes, he thought she must be happy it wasn't her for a change. On the nights where he didn't beat him, he beat her.

The boy never thought much about growing up. Honestly, he never thought much about anything except leaving school. He tried to do anything to stay away; football, basketball, music, painting, chess club, but nothing seemed to stick. He didn't really have much direction; floating around in the wind searching for somewhere to take it. Some place to put him down.

Then his younger brother was born, and suddenly Harry knew he couldn't leave. If he did, his brother would take his spot. At 12 he realized it, and by the time he was 15 and his brother was 3, it only seemed to solidify itself. Harry was going to be trapped with an abusive monster forever.

Then, his father hit his brother, and knocked him out cold. At this point, the boy could barely talk since he was a bit of a late developer, and his father had already hit him. That night, Harry realized it didn't matter what he did. There was no hope for his future, given his shit grades, and there was no hope for his brother either.

Harry was taken that night.
