Backstory
Elizabeth loved her parents so very much. She was born in England to them. When she was younger, they had money. It was inherited from her grandmother on her mother's side. Her father's family would not talk to them, as they were upset her father had married a black woman.
She never really cared though. It was just the three of them, and it had been for a long time. Her mother was an artist. Though she didn't make much money, she loved what she did and Elizabeth loved it too. Her dad was an astronomer by night, and he loved looking up at the stars. She spent her quiet nights with them, staring at the sky.
At school, she was entirely business. There, it was obvious she was not a dreamer like her parents. There she was stuck up; both a snob and a brown noser. Elizabeth never cared what other seemed to think. In a way, she was a dreamer too, though maybe not creative.
One day, she knew from the age of eight, that she would be a doctor.
Her father got a job at the university when she was twelve as an astronomer. By the time she was fourteen, her family finally had money. It took quite a bit of time to get rid of the thousands of pounds of debt her family had accumulated over the years.
Eventually, her father became sick. Sick from the years of smoking he had done at night, staring up at the stars.
By the time she was fifteen, her father was out of work from the illness. Thankfully, they found themselves protected by the government, but her father had lost the spring in his step. He knew he was going to die, and he knew he'd die soon.
Her job at the pool over the summer hadn't been much fun either. Not much fun ever happened, except for a few accidents. Two near drownings and one concision bleeding substantially. She had managed to calm them all, and there was her calling. She wanted to work in the ER.
Until, her parents were hit by a drunk driver.
Her father died instantaneously, but her mother went into a coma. The stars were gone, and the colour from her world was draining slowly.
Her mother died in the ICU, a week later.
She was alone.
It was in her room, a month after the accident, that the night found her.
