One of the first boys he met in Neverland, Jared got it. He got the pain, the misery, the anguish, the death, the loneliness. Alex saw Jared as a sort of light, because though he could tell Jared was truly destroyed by the island, Jared never said a word of his pain. It gave Alex hope.

Devin
Devin was a bit annoying, but he got it too. Of course, he was a lot dumber and snide, and consequently the boys weren't as close, but he still valued the boy. He still was pained when he died.

Charlie
He could tell Charlie was a girl straight away, and the idea threatened Alex. If he let her get too close, he too might go up in flames. Eventually, when all of it blew over, and when she stopped acting so stupid, he grew to appreciate her. Even though she'd been there much less, she'd seen the worst of it as well.

Keaton
They had been close friends, Keaton and Alex, before his crack-pot plan that lost Alex too much. After that, Alex tried to lay low while Keaton attempted to shine through the chaos. When Alex thought Keaton killed Jared, it was too much. When he was wrong about all of it, it was even worse.

They met early on as well. Alex never liked Rufio much at the beginning. At first, it was just to pass the time. At first, it was because the woods were lonely, and Alex was finally free. He didn't have to hide anymore. Then, it became something more. Soon thereafter, it was all lost.

Inali
They had been on and off again for years. On before Rufio, on during the fights between Alex and Rufio (which were many). On whenever Alex had to be an ambassador. It wasn't technically cheating, since Rufio, at least for the first ten or so years, had been little more than a fling. Especially since Inali was so different. He was kind, and wise, and funny, and just wanted Alex to be happy. Before he was murdered, Alex and Inali were truly happy for each other. If Alex could take back Inali and Walela's deaths, he would.

He tried to avoid falling in love with Harry. With his quiet charm, his good looks, and his wit. His soft hands and clever face. He tried to avoid it for years, but he couldn't. Although Alex couldn't bare to lose Harry, he couldn't bare to live a life without him.
