After the debrief all other knights were dismissed, Ellie has become the first servant to summon her master's armor, and Kai was having a conversation with his soul, Bero the hell Dragon, while regaining his soul power.
"Why did you select me Bero?" questioned the redhead whilst sitting on the hot ground.
"I told you why I chose you already. I felt you could handle my power unlike those other measly knights and souls." he answered with a puff of smoke coming from his nose.
"So I was chosen "cuz I was strong? Sweet." says kai with a smirk.
"Amongst other things." replies the dragon.
"Would you quit hintin' at stuff and not speaking on it? That's really annoying and upsetting. Its like when someone texts "I have to tell you something" and then says "never mind". he says with a disappointed face.
The large beast laughs at the boy as he is reminded of a human from his past.
"What are you laughin' at?" questions the boy
"I guess I should tell you, since you are my holder now." says the dragon
"Yes!" says the boy as he pays full attention to the dragon.
"Well, long ago, back when I was alive I met a human that I enjoyed. In fact he was the only person or thing that I enjoyed, besides killing of course." he says in a happy tone, for a dragon at least.
"So you were evil?" questions Kai with full interest.
"Have you really ever heard of a good dragon? Or anything with "Hell" in front of its name being good?" answers Bero.
"Fair point..."
"Anyways, the human's name was Ryan. He was a soldier and he nurtured me back to health after I was shot by a ballista. He was the nicest thing in the world, even broke through my flaming hide without actually fighting me. He could have killed me if he wanted to, he was ordered to finish me but he came and helped. He also lied to his commander for me." explains Bero.
"He sounds like a wonderful person." answers Kai
"Indeed. He befriended a monster that hated everything that lived and would kill mercilessly. He was brave as well, he brought his pregnant wife to see me in the place we would meet, brought food for me, and was just a friend but...then..." Bero suddenly stops.
"Then what!?" questions Kai, nearly excited. Almost like a child letting someone read them a book.
"Then he was betrayed by his so-called best friend. He was corrupted by an Esser. The army was also corrupted by these demons already and they mercilessly killed everyone in his homeland." says the dragon hanging his head.
"Oh no..." says kai in ultimate suspense
"The army came to kill me along with Ryan. When they arrived, they surrounded us." says Bero as he puts the tip of his large claw on Kai's forehead, bringing him to what appeared to be a memory.
"Woah." says kai as he looks around seeing that he's been transported somewhere else. He was transported into the memory.
"S-So many" says the boy as he falls to a knee with his sword on the ground
"Ryan, hide under me. I'll fi--" the dragon was cut off by dark and heavy chains being shot through the dragon's wings , some wrapping around his mouth, and into the ground as the beast lets out a pain-filled roar.
"B-Bero!" screams the boy as he stood up and tried to remove the chains.
"Run boy. Leave me." commands the dragon, who can barely speak.
