"The Institute is under attack." Alec stood from his chair about to press the one button that would open his weapon's cabinet and the stopped. Alec looked up at Magnus.

Alec had hesitated because his training told him to not open the cabinet in from of Magnus, a warlock. His heart sinked as the weight of their position sank on his shoulders.

"I think the warlock business cannot wait." Magnus sounded worried and seemed to have not noticed Alec's guilt trip.

"What is it?" Alec came around to stand besides him, feeling supicious and guilty at the same time.

"It's Valentine and his men attacking the Institute. He kidnapped a powerful warlock child which seems to have been the last piece of his plan."

"Not only is the child in danger but everyone in the institute as well. I didn't suspect that he would attack this soon."

"I promise not to hurt her." If Alec was feeling guilty before, it was nothing compared to what he was feeling now. Alec thought, 'if we survive this, I am never going to suspect him again. Ever'

While Magnus thought, 'If we survive this, I am going to take this shadowhunter on a date.'

"Let's go." The two headed out and saw Jace, Izzy and Clary running towards him.

Before anyone could say anything, Alec spoke, "It is Valentine. Everyone gather."

Everyone started to go to the mission room when Magnus noticed Alec drag Clary, the only other shadowhunter he knew to the other side of the room. If anyone noticed, they didn't give.

Magnus felt jealousy but it wasn't time for all that right now. As he came back, Alec gave Magnus a tight smile and addressed the room.

"Listen everyone. Now we know that Valentine is after the Soul Sword. He recently kidnapped a warlock child which we suppose is to over power the Institute magic. Th child is powerful but still just a child. If anyone sees the child, get a message to Magnus here." Alec gestured towards Magnus who simply nodded with a grave expression.

"Since, they will be taking multiple routes to overpower us, our aim to distribute in groups and close all possible exits. If any groups get inside, make sure to trap them in a way that they cannot make anymore openings. There is a high possibility that the warlock child will be with Valentine himself." As Alec spoke, his eyes wandered to one Shadowhunter that sneaked his way out of the meeting but Alec was prepared.

The silent sirens blared again meaning the wall was about to be breached.

"If there are any questions, now would be the time." Alec said with an urgency hoisting his arrow when a Shadowhunter, Raj who had come down from Idris for help spoke up.

"How do we trust a warlock or any downworlder?"

"That's because..." Alec started but Magnus placed a hand on Alec's shoulder to stop him.

"Allow me." Alec nodded and let Magnus take the centre. Magnus focused in gaze on the one man that asked the question.

"For one, the question should be that how can any downworlder expect a shadowhunter to protect them when their own kind is trying to eliminate us. People like you make us loose our trust in shadowhunters and wonder if you'll turn on us the moment Valentine comes along. For two, since Valentine, a shadowhunter is trying to eliminate all downworlders, we have the highest incentive getting rid of him. I am here, putting my trust in the like of you to help a warlock child. If it weren't for some of you..." Magnus gestured towards Alec, "I wouldn't be here in the first place."

Alec along with others were frowning at the mistrusting position Magnus had put them in but the Alec spoke, " As much as I hate to hear it, he has a point. Let's make it so that everyone can trust us to do the job that we were born to do."

With that the alarm went faster and the shadowhunters dispered quickly.

Jace grimaced at Magnus, "That wasn't very nice." and beamed at Alec, "that was one hell of a speech."

Alec smiled tightly at Jace and looked at Magnus. "You guys guard the main gate and help Clary, she will be here any moment." Jace and Izzy frowned at that but Alec didn't explain further and walked away with Magnus in tow saying,

"Let's get to the warlock business."

If Alec was the head of the Institute, Magnus felt a little at ease about helping find his sweat pea.
