THE COMPARTMENT AT THE VERY END OF THE HOGWARTS EXPRESS WAS KNOWN TO BE THE MARAUDERS'.It was where James and Estella had met Sirius Black, Remus Lupin, and Peter Pettigrew for the first time, as well as Lily Evans and Severus Snape. Every year since, James, Estella, Sirius, Peter, and Remus piled themselves into the same compartment.

Fifth year was no different.

Remus Lupin found himself in his usual seat as James and Sirius pitched in to buy every type of candy from the cart. Peter was flipping through the pages of one of the new books Remus had gotten over the summer.

Estella was nowhere to be found. They almost immediately lost her when they boarded. Remus was actually relieved to have some space from the girl after the letter she had received.

The lads closed the compartment door, taking their respective seats.

"Mate, we have got to talk."

"I know, James, I know," said Remus as he averted his eyes to gaze out the window.

"You need to tell her how you feel," Sirius interjected,"You've been pining over her since second year, and it's time, mate."

"No."

"What?" Peter looked at him in bewilderment.

"She should be with someone else,"Remus  let out a huff as he turned his back to lean against the compartment wall,"Look, we're best mates, and if things don't work, it could ruin our dynamic. All of our dynamics."

"But what if things do work?" James encouraged, shifting to the edge of the seat. Peter kept glancing at the door to make sure Estella wasn't coming.

"It wouldn't be any better," admitted Remus,"I don't want that life for her. Being with a werewolf...." He shook his head, running his fingers over the scar on his face."I couldn't do that to her. I wouldn't be a good boyfriend, let alone someone she could spend the rest of her life with. She'd have to deal with the prejudice against werewolves. I just don't have a realistic future with her. I don't want to be her burden."

James shook his head in disbelief,"Remus, do you want to have a future with her, though?"

"Of course, I do."

"Then do something about it," James claimed,"Because you don't get to decide if you are a burden. She does."

"And she fancies you, Moons." Sirius added which earned him an elbow in the ribs from James and a book thrown from Peter.

Remus didn't even get the chance to react because the compartment door opened and in came Estella Bennett.

He couldn't help, but admire her. Her pastel pink hair fell to her shoulders in waves. She was dressed in a thin white shirt with a leather jacket, that Sirius had gotten her for Christmas last year, and a pair of jeans.
