THE FUTURE ALWAYS SEEMED MORE like a dream to Estella

THE FUTURE ALWAYS SEEMED MORE like a dream to Estella. It seemed the seven years it takes to finish schooling was more or so described as infinite, a beginning with no real ending. Of course, she knew that wasn't true. She knew one day she would no longer have to get on that train every September or walk the corridors at night, but she never really thought about what would come after Hogwarts.

It's not even that Estella never thought about it, because she had. She hoped that Sirius, Peter, and Remus would continue to be in her life, and she had no doubt that they would because at this point, could any of them really live without the others? James would stay by her side through it all, no matter what the future holds.

She also wished to stay close with her dorm mates. Lily Evans was someone she couldn't even fathom not having in her life, Estella needed that kindness and empowerment in her life and Lily was always there to give it. Needless to say, when she did think about the future she saw Marauders and Lily, even Theodore. Maybe she thought about the future more than she thought.

Yet, when Estella sat across from Professor McGonagall in her office and was asked, "What does the future hold for you? What career field do you have in mind?" She had no clue.

Instead of answering, silence filled the gap between her seat and McGonagall's desk. The older woman glanced over her glasses at Estella with a knowing, yet waiting look.

"I dunno, Professor, I've never really thought about," Estella admitted defeatedly,"I mean, it seems like everyone has found their calling already and I just...I haven't found mine."

It was true. James dreamed of playing Quidditch professionally while Remus strived to teach. Peter had found his love for the workings of the Ministry ofMagic. Even Sirius knew he wanted to be a healer, or some kind of help to the word. Estella just hadn't figured it out yet.

"May I offer some advice, or something of a suggestion?" The professor spoke to the conflicted fifteen year old.

"I..uh, sure. Go for it," Estella replied with a hint of curiosity.

"You have remarkable power, Ms. Bennett. More than you know," McGonagall began,"And with that power and pure nerve, you would be a brilliant Auror."

"Pardon me?" Estella critiqued,"I would be a rubbish Auror. I'm not nearly brave enough to chase down dark wizards, that's..I've not even sure I'd be able to go through the training."

McGonagall looked Estella as if she just sprouted two other heads. She set her hands on her desk and looked over her glasses at the girl in front of her with such a intense look.

"I don't believe I've ever met a braver student than you, Estella Bennett," The professor claimed with complete sincerity."It takes a lot of nerve to stand between a group of bullies and take several hexes for a younger student, especially one you had never met."
