What had Hux done? Had he really just offered up his busywork to... to a potential love interest??? No, no, no, this would not do. There was no time for the stupidity of relationships or attraction or romance or... anything like THAT on the finalizer. Oh boy, Hux was in for it now.
"No," he told himself, "I am simply employing a worthy assistant to deal with my chores. It's hardly romantic. It's demeaning, almost."
But Hux knew he was only lying to himself. He liked [y/n]. He really really liked her. There was something soothing in the way she talked, a certain flow of words that felt natural and grounded. She knew her place, and she knew what she wanted to ask in order to complete the tasks she was assigned to. She wasn't rambunctious or sinister like Ren- no, [y/n] came with a sense of calm which should only have been reserved for the likes of a Jedi. Leader Snoke would likely cringe if he felt it, yet Hux knew where [y/n]'s loyalties lay: With the First Order. It might sound like her obedience was the most attractive thing to him, which might have been off putting, or devaluing of her, but it wasn't that. Hux respected [y/n]'s ability to stand strong against all odds, obey not out of weakness, but out of a pure understanding that everything in the First Order depended on it, that she was a gear in a well-oiled machine that had to turn, because the machine would not work without her.
So maybe that was Hux's alibi: he wanted [y/n] as an assistant because of her sheer reliability. Nothing more. Anyone who seemed suspicious could go see for themselves that [y/n] was efficient. It wouldn't raise an eyebrow.

Meanwhile, you were absolutely nervous about what was to come. You had to meet Hux tomorrow morning, and you had to not only look good, but feel good, EXUDE good. If you appeared in any way lackluster, the General would certainly have you executed, or worse, fired. You had to get your beauty rest, so you crawled into the soft blanket-covered comfort of your bed and tried to go to sleep. Slowly, you began to drift away, falling into a deeper and deeper sleep, and dreaming about Hux.
