Chapter 42- Sleepy

It was early in the morning. A few moments passed of pure, uninterrupted contentment. Then, you felt something shift beside you.
Slowly, your eyes fluttered open, and you saw that the place where Armitage had been curled up next to you in bed was now an empty space.
You rolled over and squinted, and saw that he had gotten up, and was now far on the other side of the room, and had gotten dressed in his usual neatly pressed uniform.
"Armitage?" You tried, "Where'd you go..."
"It's almost time to be at my post," he said, "Our "Supreme" Leader has requested that I stay stationed on the bridge for as many hours as possible. I believe he's trying to compensate for not knowing what he's doing at all..."
            You smiled.
"That's because he doesn't. I mean it when I say that, I think you are pretty much the only thing holding The First Order together right now, General..."
"Well of course I am," Hux scoffed, "Kylo Ren is a walking disaster... a speeder wreck...I wish I could forget about him altogether. Would you like any caf? It'll be done momentarily."
"I wanna go back to bed," you replied, "With you."
            Hux sighed.
"Believe me, [y/n], I feel the same way. But you know the old saying...the earliest porg gets the ... well, I don't quite remember how it ends..."
            "I hate this." You whined.
"Don't fret, [y/n]. At the very least you are here with me, and not on that Jedi nonsense planet, singing...strange hymns or something. And eating soup."
"I can assure you, Armitage, I don't know any Jedi songs. Or anything about them really. And there was nobody there to feed me any soup! Save for BB27...do they make droids with cooking functions?"
"I wouldn't know. I rarely have the time to eat anyways. Nor do I own a droid."
"It was Mitaka's...I think it's being inspected."
            "The caf is ready."
Reluctantly, you slid your way out of Hux's bed and over to his kitchen table, where he sat, upright, just as professional-looking as always, pouring two steaming cups of caf.
"Nobody knows I'm back yet," you said, "it's only rumors. And the troopers inspecting the droid. And who saw me when I got here...I have to go to Kylo or someone and find out what my new assignment is gonna be..."
"What do you mean, go to Kylo?" Hux snapped, "Your General is right here!"
"Oh well yes, of course, but when I was reassigned to Starkiller Base, Mitaka said-"
"I don't care what Mitaka said. You were my assistant once, you shall be my assistant again."
"Unless Lord Ren forbids it. Which seems...likely."
            Hux sighed.
"Unfortunately so. This is why I think you should wait a few days. Say you were healing from wounds or something, just... I need to know you won't be...punished. Or relocated to a different destroyer..."
"I doubt they'd do anything drastic. If they really cared so much what I was up to, they'd have found me by now..."
"Yes. If they suspected you were... in bed with the General..."
"Which...I am."
"But it proves Kylo hasn't done anything about it...I'd say he doesn't care but it's more likely he doesn't know."
"What about Officer Darley?"
"Whom?"
"My previous roommate. She was the one who orchestrated the thing with Kylo. She wanted to tear us apart..."
"Hm. Well it didn't work, did it?"
"I suppose you're right."
You sipped your caf and began to feel a little more awake—and even more sober to the fact that this seemingly perfect morning was inevitably to be cut short.
"Well, [y/n], "Hux said, "I suppose I'm off to the bridge. I will attempt to find out what the logs say about you, and attempt to reinstate your position—"
"I wish you didn't have to leave."
"You know as well as I do that I am integral to the success of the First Order, and that within my presence on the brid-!!! Mm.."
Your lips were on the General's and your body pressed against his in embrace. His firm hands caressed your tousled hair, while yours grasped either side of his chiseled face.
The kiss was slow and luxurious—tongues exploring each other's mouths like it was the first time—and you felt shivers up your spine. It was moments like these—the everyday ones—that you cherished more than anything else in the world.
"I think," said Hux softly, "I need to leave before you give me a real reason not to— at this rate I'll be late, and if you keep it up I won't show up at all."
"Maybe you shouldn't. Maybe you should stay and work with me instead... we could work together...if you know what I mean."
"[Y/n]!"
"It's just an idea."
With that, Hux kissed you deeply one more time, before standing up straighter than before, fixing his now-ruffled ginger hair, and heading towards the door.
"I don't have any more time for you're filthy distractions. You know when I'll be back. So I shall see you then."
And before you could say a witty goodbye, Hux was gone.
And so, you flopped headfirst into bed.
Kriff, you thought, I miss him already....
And in your haze of sleepy, early-morning loneliness, you fell instantly back to sleep.
I'll wake up when Hux gets home.
