That morning, when I lied down to sleep, the demons from the cemetery close by tormented me through the rest of the hours of darkness before sunrise. When the whispers threatened to burst my eardrums, I decided to begin my day without sleep at all.
Uncle came out of his room with unruly bed hair, wearing his Hello Kitty onesie.
"For a man as old as you are, you clearly have nothing to do with yourself", I said.
"What is wrong with men who wear Hello Kitty onesies?"
"The fact that they have nothing to do with themselves", I answered in my usual gloomy tone.
"Why are you up so early?" he asked knowing the fact that I was never a morning person.
"The whispers", I answered, holding my tone. "I give up. I don't know what to do anymore".
He kept quiet before he asked another question about where I got the angels' kiss from.
The angels' kiss was a way for an angel to mark a person he or she was guarding so that demons would back off the human.
It can only be done by an angel having to access the subject's neck and burning a pattern where the neck and right shoulder meet.
I was confused as to where I would meet an angel from before he decided to start lessons of the demon hierarchy.
Uncle removed his onesie so that it would not burn it when he morphed and led us to the back yard.
I morphed into mine then the lessons begun.
"Your markings...identify where you stand in demon hierarchy.
The wailers are the lowest rank. They are sinful humans who are cursed to pay for their sins by reincarnating into demons.
Their punishments are judged on, by the Royals.
There are harsh red markings are all over their ash grey skin".
"But Uncle, doesn't everybody sin?"
"Yes, but theirs are much greater", he answered. "Moving on--
"Wait, why are they called wailers?"
"Haven't you been tormented enough to know why wailers are called wailers?" he answered questioningly. "Wailers are what they are because they tend to lament over the loss of something they miss from their life time".
"Go on".
"All wailers do is lament but some of them take it to the extremes of tormenting the humans, so most cases in mental asylums are them at work".
"And how--
"Don't interrupt me, Rym", he said sternly. "Humans have weak minds so when the wailers try to tell them what they are lamenting over, a human thinks that there are voices in his head, doctors say schizophrenia and that is how the mental asylums are full within a day for stupid reasons".
"How many rankings are there?"
"four", he answered quickly and went on. "The second are the Baphomets. They are like the bourgeoisie of the demon world. Here, they are split into two.
The Alphas are the ones who practice all types of witchcraft and are the advisors to the throne. Their marks are on display on their foreheads.
The Zeta are the wailers who practiced witchcraft against the throne. So their punishment now, is to serve the throne they so dispise".
"How about the Royals", I asked. "What do they get to do?"
"That is for another time Rym", he answered. "Everything has its due time".
But what I did not know then, was that even his secrets had a due time. And that due time was just an arm's stretch away in time.
