Alison sat on the bed, staring at the baby as he kicked his legs up at her. A big, toothless grin and ice blue eyes stared back. She couldn't get enough of him. She'd been babysitting her four-month-old nephew for the past two hours. Jason and his wife were called to a meeting with her dad. So they'd asked her to watching Kyle.
At first, the blonde 15-year-old wanted to protest. She had better things to do than watch a crybaby. But when he'd giggled and held his arms out for her, she turned into putty in his hands. She smiled and tickled the baby's belly and he let out a loud giggle, causing Ali to giggle more.
"So is this the reason you've been ignoring my calls?"
Ali looked up and saw her girlfriend smiling at her. Emily closed the door and sat cross-legged on the other side of Ali's bed. She realized her mistake when Kyle tried to look up at her, his eyes going cross-eyed.
"Uh oh little buddy," sitting beside Ali. "Now, we can look at each other."
She made goofy faces and the baby couldn't stop giggling. The two girls smiled and laughed as they played with him. Soon, Kyle's smile left and a frown set on his face. He began to whimper before letting out a little cry.
Ali looked worriedly at him. "What's wrong? He was happy a minute ago!"
"He's probably just hungry Ali," Em laughed. "Where's his bottles?"
"Downstairs. I'll heat it up."
"I'll bring him downstairs so you don't have to come back up here."Ali led the way downstairs. Emily bounced little Kyle in her arms. Hoping to calm him down. It worked a little and he buried his little head in the crook of her neck. For some reason, that did the trick. Kyle stopped crying and pushed his head further into Em's neck.
Em laughed again. "That's your aunt's favorite spot too lil guy."
"It's amazing," Ali smirked at Em.After testing the temperature of the bottle, Em placed Kyle in Ali's arms as she sat on the sofa. Kyle looked up at Ali like he was going to start up again but she snuck the bottle into his mouth before it started. He began to suck wildly on the bottle causing the girls to giggle. Em curled up on Ali's side and laid her head on Ali's shoulder, enjoying the moment.
The moment caused Ali to see them in the future, in this same position, but this time, with their own baby. She'd never thought of this before and it left her speechless. In fact, her and Em had never talked about their future before. It made her feel anxious and uneasy.
"Em...?"
"Yeah?"
"Do you want kids?"
"Yes. I've always wanted to them. Babies are amazing."
"How come you- we..."
Em cut her off. "Never said anything about them before?"
"Well, yeah..."
"I guess, I just never wanted to seem so vulnerable. I've always had this image of the perfect family in my mind. I just never thought I'd have it."
Ali turned to her. "Why?"Emily looked down at her hands as she felt some of her fears creep back into her mind. She'd wanted Ali for so long and she would fantasize about the blonde next to her. She'd always envisioned a family with Ali.
Em smiled. "I've only imagined having a family with one person and I never thought we'd be anything other than friends."
The answer hurt Ali's heart. For some reason, she thought Emily was referring to Maya St. Germain. Maya had always had a crush on Emily and Emily would always be so nice to her. Alison hated it. There was this one time when they were at camp and Emily had baked Maya cookies. Everyone knew that Emily made the best cookies.
Ali looked at Kyle sadly. "Oh."
Em smiled into her shoulder. "But now that I have her, I want at least five babies!"Ali almost missed that comment. She was letting her jealousy run away with her. She couldn't help be glad that Maya and her family had moved away last year. Once Em's words hit her, she swung her head around.
Em laughed. "It's you Ali. I've always imagined having kids, a family with you."
Ali grinned. "Really?"
"Yeah. I even came up with the name of our first child and how cute she'd look."
"Tell me about her Em," Ali said softly.
"Well, she's got this beautiful skin tone. It's a mix between the both of ours. Her eyes... she definitely gets them from you. They remind me of the water as I'm swimming through them. Clear and beautiful. She has a head full of a dark blonde curls. She also has the cutest dimple. She's incredible smart but of course, sassy. She gets it honestly."
Ali hits her. "Em!"
Emily looked Ali in the eyes. "But she's beautiful. Just like her Mommy."
Ali smirked. "Why is it you want everyone to be like me? Even Nala."
"It's because I fell in love with you," Em replies softly. "And everything I love revolves around you. I adore you. You're amazing! Why wouldn't I want everything to be like you?"The pounding in Ali's heart got louder the longer she looked into those chocolate brown eyes she loved so much. She'd almost forgotten about Kyle until she felt him squirm in her arms. She blushed and looked down at her nephew who gave her a face she'd never seen before.
Ali looked at him concerned. "Is he okay?"
Em laughed. "Well, from experience with my little cousin, that Babe is a look that I will let you handle alone," she said, running upstairs laughing.
Ali looked after her confused. "Wha- OH GOD, EWW!"Ali held Kyle at arms length as he tried to stick his whole hand in his mouth. Ali made a sick face and scoffed. Kyle thought it was funny and giggled at her. And here she was... envisioning the baby that Emily had described to her.
"God, if they smell anything like you... No way!"
