The day was bright, a large sun peeked between your windows curtains, nipping at your eyelids.
The sun forced you to wake up before your alarm clock, but you didn't mind. Today was a brand new day, another day to see the one your best friends. Especially since one of them you liked more than the others.

And by like, I mean Dustin. The boy you've been crushing on since you met in 4th grade when he moved here. Dustin didn't have his teeth like everyone else at that time, but that didn't stop you from being his first friend.

It was never his seemingly bright and beautiful toothless smile, or his go to attitude. It was the way he was kind to everyone, even if they weren't the same to him. It was the way he sassed the people who gave him a hard time. And yes, he did have quite a potty mouth, but that was just another thing that made you smile.

It was the end of another school days work, and you were currently shoving your books into your overworked book bag. The thing was practically falling apart at the seams, but you didn't care.

You were stopped by the sound of three girls, all walking in sync. Their expensive shoes click clacked down the hallway, out the side door. Their giggling awfully seemed suspicious, like the kind people do when they talk shit. And you could have sworn you heard Dustin's name along the lines, but you shrugged it off.

After all it was the end of the day, and the only thing you really cared about was getting the hell out of there as soon as possible.

You zipped your bag up the rest of the way, shut your locker closed, and headed the same way the girls went, out the side doors. It's the way you usually took when you left at the end of the day. Short cut to the bike rack.

Walking around the corner of the brick building, you had no idea what was going on without you there....

Dustin's POV-

I removed my bike from its chain, rolling it out from in between the bars, only for the tires to roll over something, followed by a snobby gasp.

"My shoes!" Stacey screeched. Her polished nails curved into fists as she groaned in such annoyance. I looked up fear full of what might fly out her glossy lips this time. Sure she was pretty, and she was definitely out of my league, but I never took her to be a snob.

"Listen freak, don't ever touch me again if you want to live to see another day." She sneered. Her posse giggled behind her. "How would he know, Stace? Just look at him!" One of her polished friends backed her up, Britney.

Stacey, 8th grade, most popular girl and probably the prettiest too (but not in my eyes). But don't let looks fool you, although they might have fooled me at one point.

"It's not that big a deal Stacey." I bluntly said to her cake face. I squinted at her, she was standing slightly in front of the sun, which kind of made even harder standing there taking her insults, and taking the bright sun.

"Whatever, why don't you go missing? Your just a toothless loser." She rolled her eyes and shoved me with her shoulder, as she left with her posse right behind her. The click clack of her heals against the pavement dismissed my presence.

Stacey was the most popular. She was the 'prettiest'. But Stacey was undoubtedly the meanest girl you could ever encounter, and I should know, because the tears forming from my eyes could be seen by everyone.

The stares of everyone followed me as I ran from the bike rack to the side of the school. I tried helplessly to wipe the flowing tears, but it was no use. So, I walked faster, if that was even possible. I didn't even know where I was running to I guess just away from wandering eyes.

I thought I was in the clear until a forceful impact came at my shoulders. Either I was blind enough not to see something in my direction, or I just stupidly ran into someone...

Your POV-

I pushed the hatch down on the metal side doors, and pushed it open with some force. The doors do this weird thing that it gets stuck sometimes. But what I didn't expect was someone to already be there when the door opened. Instead, I was rammed by whoever was standing there.

"Hey! Watch wher- Dustin?" Your once pissed face turned soft and worried by the sight of the boy who was always happy was sad. You reached out for his shoulder, only for him to yank his shoulder back. He must be embarrassed you thought.

A pitiful sob left his mouth like a whimper. It broke your heart to see him the way he was. What could have caused him to-

And then it clicked. Stacey and her friends! You knew she was up to no good. Instead of letting it go you should have done something! But of course you just had to get out of school. Oh you were steaming mad, you were really pissed.

After a small thought you looked over at Dustin, but became worried when he wasn't there. Oh shit. Where could he be. The A.V room!

Luckily the A.V room wasn't too far away, it was just around the corner. You reached for the doorknob and twisted it open. The sight of three familiar nerdy boys caught you. Mike, Lucas, and Will. All your friends since 3rd grade, but what mattered is Dustin. Full on crying in a chair in the back corner.

Mike immediately rushed up to you questioning what had happened. "What happened! Who did it?!" He demanded.

You only rushed to Dustin's side, going around the table of equipment. "Who do you think? Stacey and her stupid friends." You sneered.

You looked at Dustin with soft eyes and could only feel bad for his self esteem. Everything about him is so perfect and he of all people should believe that.

"Don't listen to her Dustin, she's just a mouth breather. Who cares what she thinks anyway."
You hugged him, this time he didn't pull away but he certainly didn't hug back.

"Why not!? She's right anyways." He lashed. He sniffled into his sweaters sleeve and glanced up at me with red puffy eyes filled with despair. His eyes screamed for help but his mouth told you to leave.

But instead of listening, it was your turn to talk. And Dustin was going to listen.

You hugged him tight, even if he didn't hug back.

"You are perfect Dustin. I don't care what Stacey thinks. And if you think even for a second that you are anything less than her, then I will do everything in my power until you believe it. Because you are perfect. In. Every. Way."

A moment of silence was the only thing heard. You were a bit embarrassed from your sudden speech and choice of words, but what gave you relief was the feeling of Dustin's arms wrapping back around your own back.

You smiled slightly in the crook of his shoulder. You still heard him cry a bit, but I think this time it was happy tears.
