*Gina's POV*

"Gina. Gina, wake up," I'm gently shaken awake. The soothing voice calms me slightly.

"Hm?" I flutter my eyes open. Once my vision adjusts, I see a tall figure before me. Ross. "Ross," I tug at his wrists to pull him down beside me into the couch. Quickly, I look at the clock beside me. It's 10:32.

"No. Gina. This is important," he says in a serious tone. I sit up, looking him in the eyes. He blinks and looks away from my gaze.

"Ross," I grab his chin and turn his face towards mine. "What is it?"

His gaze drifts behind me. "Your dad..." He trails off.

My heart rate starts to quicken as I ask, "What about 'my dad'?" I straighten up in my seat.

"He-he," Ross stammers.

"He what?" I demand.

His eyes meet mine and I see how apologetic he looks as he says, "He escaped."

And at that, everything around me starts to spin. Everything starts turning black.

"Gina. I will get you. Next time, this boy won't be here to save you! You deserve everything you're going to get! Be ready!" My dad shouts as he is being escorted to the police car.

I shutter at the memory.

I will get you.

Those four words.

They can mean a lot.

He's out. Out of jail. Out into the open.

I can't even begin to describe the fear I'm going through. It's too much to explain.

I dreaded telling her that. The fear in her eyes made me break. It tore me apart on the inside.

I stroked the side of Gina's face as tears started falling down her cheeks. "Sh, baby, sh. Don't cry. Nothing will happen to you. I promise," I whisper into her ear.

"Don't-don't make a promise you can't keep," her voice cracks halfway through. My heart just shattered right there.

"But I can promise it, Gina," I insure her. "Come on. We have to get out. Now."

She looks up at me with confusion plastered on her face. "Why?"

"This is his house. It's dangerous here," I tell her. I place my hands under her kneecaps, scooping her into my arms.

"I'm sorry, Ross; for all of this," she sobs into my chest. I walk to the front door and pull my hand from under her knee and twist the nob. Pulling it shut, I walk to the car. The moon shines bright, making everything visible. The tears on Gina's face reflect off the shining light. I sigh as I carry her around to the passenger seat.

"Don't be sorry," I inform her. She nods her head slightly as I buckle her in her seat. "You have your phone?"

She pulls something out of her pocket and lifts it in the air. I recognize it as a phone and shut the door, walking off to my side. Once I step in, I turn to look at Gina.

"Everything will be okay. Okay?" I place my hand on her thigh and rub it gently.

"Okay," she sighs, looking out the window. I pull my hand away and start to drive out of her driveway.

While driving, I pass pedestrians who are walking without a care in the world. One in particular catches my eye. He is wearing an orange jump suit. It reflects off the moonlight. As we pass, the person turns towards our car, a twisted grin plastered on his face. The moonlight makes his features even more evil looking. His grin molds into a smirk, and I can see this man looks familiar in some way. As I drive away, the man turns and jumps into a bush, running deep into the forest. I drift my gaze to a sleeping Gina. She is curled up in the passenger seat. I quickly look back at the road, making sure I'm not going to crash into anything. After I make sure, I look back at Gina. I examine her smooth features. Her lips, her nose, her eyes. That's when it clicks in. The man. Gina. Her dad.

That was him.

My breath hitches in my throat as I realize what had just happened. I passed her dad. He looked at me. He knew who I was.

Shit.

"Fuck!" I slam my breaks and bang my fists on the side of the steering wheel. I run my fingers through my hair as the nerves and anxiety kick in.

"Ross. What's wrong?" Gina bolts awake, looking around herself worriedly.

I lean forward onto the wheel and, as calmly as possible, say, "Sorry babe; didn't mean to wake you."

"Ross, drive. Tell me the rest at home."

I nod my head and continue my way home.

How do I explain this to Gina? She's already worried as it is.
