I’m skipping school, it’s already decided, even before I woke up. I just don’t want to see Declan, I need time to think.
“Well look who is finally up! It’s almost two, what did you do last night?” My dad is on the couch watching the news.
I grabbed the cup of orange juice left over from yesterday in the fridge and start walking back upstairs, as I get to the stairs I call out,
“I smoked some pot, you’re parenting skills are the greatest!” He mumbles something after that I can’t quite make out.
After a little bit I get dressed, better than sweatpants and a stained t-shirt, and go back downstairs again and grab the keys to my car, to head down the street to my aunt’s house. I open the door to their small home and walk in. Their all in the kitchen like always, except Mrs. Tori is over. Mrs. Tori is Bentley and Lou’s mom, she is lovely, except she is very disapproving of the way I act and dress.
“Finnley, I haven’t seen you in so long! You’ve grown so big, are you still playing basketball?” Tori gets up to give me hug.
“Yes ma’am, fourth year.” I try not to fuel the fire of me being somewhat of a tom boy.
“That’s nice, so have you got a boyfriend yet? Lou is dating this wonderful boy! I don’t quite remember his name but he was sweet.”
I don’t know if she is gloating, or just curious. She can be such a bitch sometimes, I mean, I’m sorry this is a small town and there isn’t much to choose or look at.
“No, still don’t have a boyfriend, but I don’t need one to be happy either.” I smile and I see the fire burning in her eyes, I almost kills her that I am independent and I don’t need a man, even though it would be nice.
“What a shame, I’m sure if you just put a little mascara and dressed a little nicer, you would have them all at your door.” She grins knowing I can’t be a smart ass to her.
“Mom, I think that’s enough interrogating for now, Finn want to go somewhere?” Bentley comes in and hugs his mom and gives her a kiss, I know exactly where he wants to go.
The tent.
