You slumped over onto the table letting out a sigh. All around you your friends chattered to one another and laughed.
“Um….Hello?” You asked. No one paid any mind. Feeling your anger boil up you stood and picked up your bag. “Goodbye.” You sighed. It had been like that many times before and you had just shrugged it off, but now? Now it was just to ridiculous. Pushing open the door you waltzed out onto the street where loud music played. Oh yeah….I forgot, today’s the Lake festival….. You thought. How could’ve you forgotten? You always loved these festivals. People from all around came and set up shops everyone could visit and buy stuff from, some people even sold horses and ducks for cheap prices, not only that but they had parades pass through the whole day and played nice soothing music. You smiled as people danced, talked, and hung out with one another. You frowned and felt your stomach twist up in pain as you passed a couple who were snuggling on a near by bench. It had been a while since your last boyfriend, after he left you for a old friend of yours you had been dedicating your life to going to collage and getting out of the town, but half of you was still hesitant considering there were so many good memories here. You were so deep in thought you barley noticed the blonde who approached you a maple leaf sticker plastered to his forehead.
“Hello? Maim, hello?” He asked. You could barley hear him and bumped right into him.
“Oh, um, I’m so sorry about that.” You said blinking out of you coma like state. He smiled lightly more glad that you noticed him than ever.
“It’s fine, most people don’t notice me anyways.” He murmured. You grimaced feeling a little guilty.
“Sorry, wait, what is that?” You asked pointing at the sticker. You snickered slightly as he looked up at it.
“Oh, I put that there because of my brother…..He always is being a asshole and making people mistake me for him, so I put that there to make sure others know I’m me.” He explained. You nodded.
“Okay….I’m sorry but I didn’t catch half of that.” You said as the band started to play another peppy song. He sighed and grabbed your wrist pulling you through the crowd and back onto the far sidewalk. Quickly repeating what he said before you laughed.
“Well, we share something in common then.” You snickered. He tilted his head.
“What is it?” He asked.
“Oh, just we’re both forgotten and ignored, it gets on my nerves so much!” You cried.
“Definitely.” He agreed. “I mean once or twice is fine, but when it keeps going on and on it gets so old!” He growled. You let out a relieved cry and hugged him. Finally! Someone who knew how you felt! “U-Um……” He coughed awkwardly. You pulled away smiling sheepishly.
“Sorry, it’s just finally someone who understands!” You laughed. He laughed along and you snickered seeing the light blush on his face.
“Yeah, same here….” He murmured. You smile faded as you turned back to him.
“Sorry to be rude, I’m _______!” You held out your hand for him to shake. He looked at it and smiled a little sheepishly.
“Matthew.” He said shaking your hand quickly and pulling away. You raised an eyebrow at his behavior and sighed deciding to shrug it off.
“Well Matthew, you’re new here, I don’t think I’ve seen you around.” You said. He nodded.
“Well kinda, me and my brother moved here about a year ago.” You let out a laugh.
“Wow, and I hadn’t known? That’s weird!” You smiled. He laughed.
“Well it’s a big enough city…” He said.
