Kyler jumped up as soon as his sister stormed into his room. She closed the door behind her and headed straight to his closet, digging through his shirts. While she did that, Kyler sat up, observing his little sister.
Zach then started to take every hoodie and sweater in sight, dropping them to the floor to create a pile.
"Sure, make a mess in my room," Kyler joked. He sat up to rest his back against the headboard and then crossed his arms over his chest. While she giggled softly, Zach finished going through, and then
"I will," she said, letting her little laughs fade. Once she gathered every sweatshirt possible, she then closed the closet and then walked to the bed to sit beside her brother. "I'm keeping those."
Kyler nodded his head. He moved to one side of the bed as his sister joined by his side, now sitting on the edge instead of the middle. "Wouldn't it be easier if you just came in here every morning and got clothes?"
Zach rolled his eyes as she rested back and then leaned against her brother. Seeing she didn't want him away, he moved back to her side. "Would I be welcome to your room every day?" her voice dripped in sarcasm, they both knew the answer.
"No," Kyler muttered, "but why do you need baggy clothes anyway? You don't show."
Zach shrugged her shoulders. He was right, there wasn't a need for it, but she remained scared no matter what she did. She couldn't even decide when she would tell anyone else. Zach didn't want to risk anything when she could take her time.
"My life already surrounds the baby," she ignored her brother's question, it wasn't important.
Kyler never knew how to react. She was usually the person to be excited about everything, but yet Zach was so content at the moment. So, he kept the same soft tone she had.
"I think the rest of your life will be like that." It was as if he spoke too loud or rough, something around them would break. "Are you okay with that?"
Zach's hands went from her laugh to under her shirt, arms crossed over the stretched skin. Her mini mixture of her and Luke was right there. "Yeah," she nodded, now sounding more confident; it gave her brother a bit of reassurance. He didn't like the conversation.
Before he could say anything, she let out a small sigh, then interrupted whatever thought he had. "Can I tell you some stuff about the father?" Zach rambled, "I don't want to make everything such a surprise."
"May I ask questions?"
"Yeah," there was silence for a moment, "he's legal." As soon as the words left her mouth, she wished she could take it back.
He was the brother she could tell. Kyler had to stay in her eyes as the cooler brother who she could go to at all times. Even he knew how strict their big brother was. If he asked too much, she would probably panic and avoid answers. It was Bryson's job to overreact about the situation.
He stopped himself from being the far-too-overprotective brother, Zach was going to get enough of that from her eldest sibling. Not getting an immediate reply helped the girl relax. Kyler wasn't showing anger as she expected.
"How old?"
She started to answer, but then stopped. It was good to take baby steps. "I want him to tell you that. After I tell him, would you mind meeting him? I want you to see that he's a good person before I tell Bryson. I know I'm probably exaggerating, but I don't want either of you mad at us."
"You're asking a lot."
"I know."
"I don't like hiding things from Bryson."
"And you think I do?" Even though he wasn't looking at her, he just knew she was rolling her eyes.
"You would have to tell him as soon as I meet him." Finally, he wanted to ask his questions. "Is he mean or something? Did he force anything on you? You make me nervous."
"No!" She kept him from saying anything, startling the two. "He's nice, and everything is consensual, I just want everyone to get along."
