Being at the doctor didn't last long for Kyler and Zach. She was nervous, and he had to realize his sister was having a baby. Every time she would stand or sit, he would be right at her side if needed— he always helped even if she didn't want him to. Even though he treated her as if she was fragile and could break any second, Zach appreciated it.
Kyler tried to mentally prepare himself for helping his sister hide a baby from their brother. She was already going to be shunned by everyone else, the least he could do was help her be happy for as long as possible. Zach appreciated the things he did for her.
The two barely exchanged words. Her brother preferred to stay quiet while his little sister was having a small conversation. The most they said to each other while waiting consisted of two sentences.
"Are you ready to see them?"
"I think so."
Kyler could barely pay attention to the sonogram while Zach was the opposite. Even after it was explained, she still didn't understand as much as she thought.
By the end of it, they were ready to go home. Zachary wasn't sure how she felt about a baby anymore, even Kyler could tell. Her mind was racing with so many questions, most of them couldn't be answered yet.
Once they were done, the two left without a word to each other. By the time the siblings were to the car, Zach had a list of things she wanted to say; she didn't know if her brother wanted to hear them.
While Kyler got into the driver's side, Zachary climbed into the passenger seat. After starting the car, Kyler finally broke the silence between the two.
"Now you officially know you're going to be a mother."
A tiny smile appeared on her lips but was also quick to fade. She already knew, but it was different after seeing the baby in her tummy.
"I'm telling the father tomorrow."
Kyler was hesitant to reply, "How do you feel about that?" Zach shrugged.
"I'm scared; I don't know how he'll react. We've always talked about kids, but, like, maybe in ten or fifteen years. I don't want him to leave or be mad."
Deciding they wouldn't leave the parking lot just yet, he turned to face her, now sitting uncomfortably. "Do you think he would do that?"
Zach didn't think Luke could consider leaving. She has also never seen Luke mad at her before. He was pretty calm, but he also never had such big news thrown at him.
"I don't," she shook her head.
"Then why say it?"
Zach didn't have an answer. "Can't have high expectations right now, I guess."
Despite her view, she never expected much. Almost everything she said made him worry about her.
"It will be okay, I promise."
