Yugo

When I feel myself regaining consciousness, my body screams in pain. I groan, then blink open my eyes, squinting them against the brightness of the room. Halzi is standing over me, looking worried. She frowns when she realizes that I'm awake. "Welcome back to the world of the living, King Yugo. You really did a number on yourself, you know. You have Sheila and Cedar worried sick, and little Cedar blames himself for what happened." I sit up quickly, making myself dizzy. "Did I...?" Halzi nods, looking grim. "Yes. You had another... 'fit'. Several of them, actually, because no one but you knows how to tune that invention you wear. You were weak enough because of your exaustion and your injuries, but that just made everything worse. It took a lot of time to get you to the state you're in now, and even then you're incredibly weak. If it were up to me, I'd make you stay in bed for months. But knowing you, you'll run off to try to help the village the second I turn my back on you." I smile sheepishly. She's got me there.... I close my eyes and sigh. I lay back down, then glance at Halzi. "Can you get Sheila, please?" Halzi nods, looking a little startled and suspicious at my willingness to stay put. She then walks out, leaving me to my thoughts. She returns almost minutes later with Sheila in tow. Halzi excuses herself when Sheila enters, closing the door gently behind her. Sheila runs over to me and sits on my bedside. "Are you all right? How are you feeling? Are you in pain? Are you healing properly? Have you left your bed when you know very damn well you should be resting?" She ends this barrage of questions with a glare, making a chill run down my spine. I try to smile. "U-uh, no! Yes? Wait, what were the questions again?" Sheila sighs. "Phew. At least your head seems to be in working order. For the most part. Have you tried to leave? And you'd better answer honestly Yugo or I swear I will kick your ass from here to the beach I found your sorry, soggy butt." I try to suppress a laugh, but I'm unable to. "You were really worried, huh? I haven't heard you curse in a long time." Sheila flushes slightly. "For Cedar's sake, yes, I was worried." She turns away and mutters, "and for my sake, too. We were both very scared for you, Yugo. You were so close to death because of how weak you were. Cedar thinks you're going to die. You don't mind seeing him, do you? He blames himself for what happened." She turns back to face me, fingering the shell necklace her mother had given her. Her eyes are pits of misery and fear. "You don't blame him for what happened, right?" I feel my eyes widen. "Of course not! How could I ever?! He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time." I wave my hand, dismissing the thought that I could ever do such a thing. Sheila brightens immediately, and the glow her eyes usually have returns in full force. She smiles gratefully. "That's a relief. I'll go get him now." Sheila stands up, turns, then hesitates. She spins around toward me, and pecks me on the cheek. "Thank you, Yugo." She whispers, then she walks out and closes the door behind her. Surprised by her sudden kiss, all I can do is stare at the wall, dumbfounded.
