Phil

The rest of the day zoomed by as fast as it had come, and I found myself heading to lunch with Dan.  Following the crowd like fish swimming down a narrow river, we dodged people left and right and headed towards a location unknown to me. It was incredible how loud a hallway full of high-schoolers could get. I think my eardrums nearly burst from them.

I followed Dan aimlessly for a good 2 minutes before wondering where we were we were actually going to. "Dan?" I said, scratching my head and looking around me.

"Hm?"

"Where are we going?" I asked dumbly.

He grinned and answered me plainly, "You're going to meet my friends for lunch."

We kept walking until Dan suddenly stopped right in front of a large tree with 4 people sitting under it. They cocked their heads in confusion and they all stared at me. There was a girl with pastel pink hair, a boy with curly brown hair and piercing green eyes, a boy with straight brown hair, and another boy with blonde hair.

The girl cleared her throat and spoke up. "Umm... Dan, who is this flower crown boy you have here?"

Dan smiled and introduced me to his group. "This is Phil, and he is new to this school. Is it okay  if he joins us?"

I almost died of shock. Join them? I just came to a brand new school, and this... dude that I had just met is throwing me into his friend group of intimidating people and expects me to JOIN THEM? Not to mention that I am an extremely anti-social human being that has no idea how to keep a single conversation going.

The boy with the curly hair and the boy with straight hair smiled happily. "You can totally join us, Phil!" the boy with the straight hair exclaimed. "I'm Chris by the way."

"And I'm PJ," said the curly haired one.

"Nice to meet you, Phil!" said the girl. "I'm Louise."

I glanced over at the blonde boy, expecting him to introduce himself. He shot me a look and sighed, "I'm Luke. I think I'm in your art class." His voice was surprisingly deep.

"O-oh. I didn't realize," I stammered awkwardly. He did a half grin and took a bite out of his sandwich.

Dan sat down and patted the ground next to him. I sat down and placed my backpack behind me. We took out our lunches and began to eat.

"Hey Dan!" Louise snickered.

"Hmf?" he managed to say with a mouthful of food.

"Why is your hair half straightened?" Chris and PJ both craned their necks to take a look. They all muffled in their chuckles, but then gave up and exploded out laughing.

"Shut up, guys." Dan muttered under his breath. "My hair straightener broke in the middle of using it." They ignored him and continued to tease. "So immature." He self consciously patted his curls down to match the straight part of his hair. From the corner of my eye, I saw Luke staring at me, as if he was a wolf and I was his prey that he was hunting down.

Creep much?

Instead, I tried to listen to their conversation. They were debating which breed of dog was the best. Dan and Louise argued that Shiba Inus were the best, but Chris and PJ strongly disagreed and said that beagles were even better. I looked down and noticed that Chris and PJ were sitting pretty close to each other. Do friends normally do that?

"Yeah, Mrs. Thomson gave us a project already in art," Chris whined and took a bite of his food.

"I refuse to do it!" PJ groaned. "But it's a good thing that Chris and I are partners." He looked at him and beamed.
