Dan

I rang the doorbell to Phil's house and waited giddily, with my chest pounding. I didn't even know why I was so excited, but the thought of spending some time with my best friend made me happy.

I rocked my feet back and fourth and anxiously clutched my bag, staring at the peeling brown paint on the door.

Phil and I still have so much of the project left to do. Yesterday, Phil took home what we had started of the clay sculpture, so we were planning on making some more progress on it today.

Frowning, I stopped and rested my gaze at my feet.

I'm going into his house, right? Last time we went to my house, he told me that he was... gay and broke down right in front of me. Won't I make him feel uncomfortable because I'm a boy..?

The door suddenly swung open, mere centimeters from hitting my face. I jumped back and was immediately face to face with bright blue eyes and Phil's grinning expression.

His eyes...

"Hi, Dan!" he giggled, holding the door open and ushering me inside. He seemed just as excited- maybe even more- that I was going to be over at his house.

"Hey," I chuckled, my thoughts completely vanishing as I peered into his neatly kept house. The walls were a light yellow color, complimenting the soft white curtains and white trim around the doors and window panes. Everything was orderly and clean. I laughed to myself when I noticed the abundance of overgrown houseplants.

This house really reminds me of Phil.

"So!" Phil sheepishly exclaimed, clapping his hands together. "I have the clay stuff in my room. Should we go?"

I nodded and followed his lead upstairs.

Phil

His eyes sparkled as he stepped into my room, his jaw dropping in what I hoped was a look of awe. The sunlight from my window rested on Dan's smooth face and made his brown hair glisten like gold flecks.

"Woah!" he blurted out, nearly dropping his bag. "Your room is so nice!"

Dan pointed at the plants and the soft colors that were present in the room. Like a kid in a candy shop, he ran over to my shelf and admired the tiny clay sculptures that I had made and painted.

Dan's face lit up and he looked at me, beaming widely. "How long did this take you? They're so good!"

His smile was so contagious that I found my lips slowly turning upwards to form a small, flustered grin, my thoughts racing awkwardly. I felt a small, warm burning sensation in my chest that felt like I was going to explode at any second.
