After the incident, Emily left the store holding a bouquet of flowers. It had been a little awkward because Flynt, to Emily's amusement, had forgotten that he had to buy the things in his shopping cart.
Emily took a deep sigh, and raised up her hand to block the afternoon sun. She was strolling past Tuileries Garden, one of the most famous spots in Paris, most of its popularity is due to the fact that you can see the Eiffel tower from here.
She couldn't help but notice the couples and families playing and laughing in the nice weather. While most people would have smiled, it reminded her why she was holding these flowers.
This sight made her heart ache, reminding her of the memories she had tried to suppress, of the heartache she had felt, and of the tragic sight she had seen. It reminded her of what made her.
After she was finally able to stiffen her aching heart, she finally made it to one of the saddest places in the world, the cemetery. It had a dull feeling, almost as if something had died there.
How Ironic she thought to herself.
She slowly made her way to her father's grave. Then, almost in a whisper she said, "Hey dad. I brought you some flowers..." In an air of ceremony she placed the flowers next to the grave. She then proceeded to collect her thoughts, so she could tell her father what had happened today.
The grave read, in a tone of responsibility, "Ryan Taria" "1980-2014, May he be forever in our hearts."
It almost felt like he was there, listening to her, like he was alive again, but but she knew it was just a fantasy she had made up in order to cope with the pain in her heart.
"I met someone new today, his name is Flynt." She paused for a moment, then said. "He did something today that reminded me of what you had done for me and mom."
Although her dad couldn't hug her, or sympathise with her, at least he was good at listening. "I'm sorry dad *sniff* I'm sorry I still miss you. *sniff* I just wish you were here. I need you to be with me."
The trickle of tears that had been falling from her eyes soon turned into a waterfall.
"I'm sorry I couldn't be strong. *sob* I wanted to be like you,*sniff* but I couldn't!" She then proceeded by bursting to tears and sobbing, falling into a crumpled mess on the grass by his grave.
She could still remember what had happened, as hard as she tried, she still couldn't forget the sights and the sounds leading to her father's death.
At first the memories came in fragments, but it wasn't long until the memories flooded over her, like a paper boat being swept away by a river, she was brought back to the memories she had wanted to forget...
June 15th, 2014, two weeks after Emily's birthday, she had just turned 11. She was awoken by the sounds of gunshots and the breaking of glass. "Ryan Taria! If you won't give me my life, I'll just have to make sure you don't get one either!!" A strange voice yelling from the outside of Emily's house said.
Ecstatic, Emily slowly opened her bedroom door. Peeking out, she saw her dad slowly creeping down the hallway, then he turned and eyed Emily.
She noticed that with one hand her dad was grasping the handle of a sleek barrel, with his other hand he brought a finger to his lips, and then gestured for Emily to hide.
Emily hastily went back into her room and hid underneath the covers of her bed. That's when she heard the gunshots, piercing through her ears like a knife. Each one seemingly louder than the last. The type of thing that gives you nightmares... Then there was a dead silence.
The only thing more terrifying than bullets shooting through the air is what happens afterwards, like the devastation that follows a war.
The deceptively calm silence was interrupted by Emily's mom, who was weeping. Emily opened her door to see the most horrendous thing a child could ever see, death. The were two bodies sprawled on the floor, one was unfamiliar, but the second, you might as well say he was part of their family.
"Dad?" "Where are you?" In that moment a splitting realization had struck Emily, the body Emily's mom was kneeling over was her dad.
Emily screamed as if the world had ended, tears were streaming down her face. She shouted at her dad's now lifeless form. "Dad!! Dad wake up!!!!!"
But it was no use, he was dead.
