Chapter 19: First Encounter

Adrien was in his room, he was earnestly working over his algebra homework, and was trying to figure out why "X" was equal to 34 times two.

He was distracted by Plagg, who whined, "So... How about some camembert?" Adrien sighed and walked over to the mini fridge in his room. He got out a ring of cheese and tossed it at Plagg, who caught it with a grunt and settled down on Adrien's bed to devour it.

Adrien sighed and hoped Plagg wouldn't get any crumbs on his bed. Then he walked back to his desk to continue his work. He was unnerved a little when a mocking voice said, "Hello, Adrien!" Adrien looked up from his work and curiously glanced around the room.

Plaggs eyes widened, and then Plagg dashed over to Adrien and shouted, "Adrien! Quick! Transform!" Adrien sensed the panic in his voice and complied, "Plagg! Claws out!"

After transforming Adrien stalked around his room, "Come out before I make you!" Silence. Then He heard a dark, maniacal laugh, it echoed throughout his room, sending shivers down his spine. "Fine fine, if you insist." Adrien jumped back a little when he saw a dark shadow on the floor, it unnerved him even more when he realised that nothing was there to make the shadow.

The shadow started to rise up from the floor, a two dimensional object became three dimensional. The shadow turned midnight black as it rised up from the ground.

Adrien, now transformed into Chat Noir, reached out at the darkness, and pulled his hand back in shock when he couldn't feel anything. A chuckle came from the darkness, then it said, "Hello Adrien, I've come for your miraculous."

Chat Noir put on an angry expression, then he let a dark inferno cover him, causing the floor boards to crack under the pressure. "Sorry! That's simply not pawsible!" Chat looked at his hand and caused am orb of destruction to form on it, then he flung it at the shadow.

The orb flew at the shadow, and much to Chat's dismay, the orb was absorbed by the shadow! "Wh-what? How did you do that?" The shadow let out an amused chuckle and said, "Don't you know? You and me used to be war buddies!" Then the shadow started to expand, and a black cloud started to form inside the room.

Chat started to cough, and he could feel the life being sucked out of him. His eyes started to feel tired, and the last thing he saw was a weird crab-like creature that looked like a Kwami.

Chat's ring gave it's signature warning cry and detransformed him. Plagg popped out of the ring and desperately tried to wake Chat up. "Come on! Wake up!" Plagg shouted, panicking.

Meniss laughed and came out of the shadow, then he mockingly questioned, "What's the matter Plagg? Before you didn't even care about your host." Plagg turned around and snarled. "Times have changed, Meniss! I care about my "host"! Unlike you, who constantly drains them of their life!"

At this, Meniss burst into another fit of laughter then he teased, "My, my. Dear little Plagg, I think that remark just cost you an arm and a leg!" The shadow silently pranced over to Adrien, who was laying on the floor. Then the shadow placed its hands on a leg and an arm, causing a thick smoke to spread out from its palms.

Adriens eyes jolted open and he screamed in pain, his arm and leg had melted into ink. Blood started to pour out of his injurys, turning the thick black ink into a maroon color. Plagg gasped and rushed over to Adriens side. "Adrien! Are you okay?!" "Of course not silly! He's literally dying right now!" Meniss mocked while the shadow walked over to the window of the room.

Suddenly, the shadow jumped back, with Meniss dashing back into his protection. "Lucky, Charm!" Ladybug shouted while swinging through the window and shattering the glass with a nail. The glass sprayed all around the room, pieces of it got lodged in the bed and the curtains.

Meniss giggled through the shadow and dashed toward Ladybug. Ladybug turned around with a start and tossed a flash grenade on the floor, sending a blinding white light all around the room.

Meniss groaned in pain as Ladybug hastily slung Adrien around her shoulders and ran towards the window. Meniss growled and the shadow sent a cloud of darkness towards the window. Everything was covered in a thick shadow, so thick you could feel it. It enrobed Ladybug, covering her features like a blanket. All she could hear was the shrill laughter of Meniss as he walked closer to the pair.

Ladybugs eyebrows furrowed in concentration and she formed something else, a train tunnel illuminated with floodlights.

The air tingled with electricity as atoms and molecules joined together to create the individual bricks that made up the tunnel. The floodlights flickered on and off as they floated around the structure, seemingly alive.

And then, the tunnel was built, and the floor to Adriens room cracked under the pressure. Ladybug hastily latched her yoyo onto one of the floodlights. She swung from one to the other towards the illuminated exit. The shadow stalked in the splotches of darkness that the light hadn't reached.

Ladybug was full of excited nervousness, one wrong move and she would fall into the darkness below, leaving her and Adrien vulnerable to Meniss. The brick ceiling cracked a bit, revealing a shadowy flame that almost looked like a tentacle reaching for Ladybug.

Latch on, swing, release. Latch on, swing, release.

The words echoed in Ladybug's head, drumming out what she needed to do to fight the darkness.

Suddenly, the light that her yoyo was wrapped around snapped, and Ladybug and Adrien plummeted towards the ground. She closed her eyes, and waited for whatever Meniss was going to throw at her.

An insane giggle escaped from Meniss, and his lips curved into a smile as Ladybug and Adrien fell to their deaths. "It's time I smashed that bug once and for all!"

Ladybug kept her eyes shut, and it seemed as if she was falling for an eternity, she shakily opened her eyes to see Adrien, still missing an arm and a leg, who had transformed into Chat and had destroyed the floor underneath them. "Help me Ladybug!!" Chat exaustedly exclaimed while fighting the dull pain coming from his wounds.

Ladybug slipped her hand around Chat and brought out his baton. After pointing it at the ground she shouted, "Matraque! Extend!"

The baton extended at a frightening speed, sending Chat and Ladybug through the roof of the mansion. It stopped when Ladybug and Chat were around a hundred feet in the air.

They watched from above as Adriens home crumbled into pieces. The wind whistled around them, ruffling their hair. The moon and stars shined down on their faces, illuminating them with a pale light. They stayed there for a while, listening to the quiet around them.

Ladybug was the first to break the silence, "Chat, where are you going to live now?" Ladybug whispered, looking over her shoulder at Chat. Then she realized that he was still bleeding, and she hastily contracted his staff and started to swing towards the hospital.

Ladybug brought Adrien closer to her and whispered in his ear, "Don't worry Adrien, we'll make sure you stay safe."
