Ben sat in the cold and dark room. He could barely see, but he could make out a table in front of him and someone sitting next to him. Ben assumed the person to be Joe. Ben then heard footsteps walking slowly towards him. The pitter-patter of shoes against the hard, granite, floor. He heard a click and a bright light shone in his face. A man pointed a flashlight at Ben's face so he couldn't make out who the man was.
"Is anyone else alive on the island?" the man questioned in a stern and steady voice.
"I don't know," Ben replied.
"Do you know the whereabouts of Doctor Vestuves Spidermonkey?" the man asked.
"Vestuves?" Ben thought to himself.
"Do you, or do you not?" the man said as he raised his tone of voice.
"No, last I saw, he was on the island," Ben replied.
"That's all I need, thank you for your cooperation."
"It's not like I had much of a choice in the matter," Ben thought to himself.
The man then turned off the flashlight and turned the lights on in the room. It took a second for Ben's eyes to adjust to the light. The man interrogating Ben was an older man with a large, gray, mustache and he was dressed in a military outfit. Ben also looked at the person to his left. It took Ben a second to realise he was right with the fact that it was Joe sitting in a chair next to him. Ben wasn't used to seeing Joe without his pilot helmet on.
"So, where exactly are we, and why are we here?" Joe asked the soldier.
"You are in one of the last remaining bases of Hero Corp." The man said.
"Hero Corp.? I thought they were shut down after that one hero went rogue?" Ben asks the man.
"We were, mostly; I can't disclose most of the information, but let's just say that we're still operating in secret away from the eyes of the public," the mustached man replies, "Dr. Spidermonkey's father, Spidermonkey Snr., is a well known criminal to Hero Corp. so when we heard rumors that his son, the Spidermonkey you know, had a possible evil plot, we had to get to the bottom of it. You're lucky we found you two when we did, or you guys would have been dino chow to that big sail-back crocodile."
"It's called a spinosaurus," Ben says to him.
"I really don't care what it's called, the problem is that a mad-man is still on the loose on an island full of genetically modified dinosaurs," the man explains.
"From what I gathered, he was trying to build a prehistoric zoo, but some of the creatures escaped and killed all of the employees there at the time, so Spidermonkey tried to kill us by leaving no witnesses," Ben started to say.
"Yeah by kill, you mean feeding us to a T. Rex, right?" Joe sarcastically says.
"Yes, but why was most of the power on the island shut off except for some of the key places that Spidermonkey took you, such as the tyrannosaurus enclosure?" the man questioned.
That statement made Ben think a little bit.
"Our Hero Corp. experts have theorised that the zoo was just a cover up for his true plan, and that he had planned for the creatures to escape in the first place," the soldier explains to them.
"But why plan all of this just to kill the employees, me, and Joe?" Ben questioned.
"The employees were likely killed because of the no witnesses thing, and Joe is technically also an employee, but we're not sure why he brought you to the island," he says to Ben, "But, our sources have found clues that a fourth person was supposed to go to the island with you two and Spidermonkey, we just have no idea who it was, but whoever it was, the doctor had a vendetta against them, and either by luck or suspicion, this person did not go to the island to die."
"I wonder who it could be?" Joe says quietly to Ben.
"Okay Dr. Rodney, you may leave, we need Joe for further questioning since he has inside info on the island; try to keep quiet about the island also, we don't want public panic about that place," the man says as he and Joe walk away.
One of the employees then drives Ben away from the base and back to his house. The employee said goodbye to Ben and drove off. Ben went into his house. He hadn't been there in what seemed like forever. Ben took off his broad-brimmed hat and looked at the scorch marks and burned away chunks on it.
"Guess I need a new hat," Ben thought.
He put the hat in his closet and walked to his room. Ben quickly fell asleep on his bed and tried to forget about Dinosaur Island.
3 Weeks Later...
Ben came back to his house after one of his digs. He had got a new hat which was a bit smaller and a lighter shade of brown than the other one; it was almost tan. He had tried to forget about the incident; anyone who asked about where he had been, Ben said that he had a business trip. Images of Grumpy jumping up and grabbing the helicopter in its jaws still haunted Ben. He put his equipment down and looked at the news on T.V.
"Next up, strange weather patterns have been picked up by satellite around an island in the Pacific. This seem to be some sort of vortex of nimbostratus clouds forming around Ile de Perdu. Our expert think that these are just abnormal rain patterns that happen sometimes in the tropics, but others believe it to be snow clouds forming above the tropical island," the weather lady explains.
Ben wonders if that could be Dinosaur island, since he remembered that it was in the pacific ocean, but he quickly passes it off as paranoia. Ben then turns off the T.V. He looks at some mail he had on the table. Most of it was junk mail or bills, but one was a letter addressed to Dr. Rodney. There was no return address on it. The letter read:
Dear Dr. Ben Rodney,
We have come to hear about your survival on Ile de Perdu, and we wish for your assistance in a rescue operation to the island to save the prehistoric fauna that live there. Your level of dinosaur expertise and knowledge of the island would be of utmost importance to us. If you feel that you would like to help, please visit Madame Pom at 1232, Sorfela St. To get in, the password to the house is XY334.
Sincerely,
N/A
Ben had no idea what to think of the letter. How did they find out about the island, and why did they want to save the dinosaurs? Ben had many questions in his mind as he thought whoever these people were, they were insane. Ben thought at first that for sure he would say no, but as he thought more about it, he might be their only hope. Joe knew the island, but he didn't have Ben's level of dinosaur expertize, and who knows what Hero Corp. did with him. Ben was also curious about what had happened to Grumpy, Clawless, and the rest of the dinosaurs.
After going back and forth, Ben decided that he would at least visit this Madame Pom to see if this 'rescue team' knew what they were doing.
