"We should do a bonding exercise," Allura mumbled into her food goo. "I feel like we're falling apart. I hardly know you anymore."
Keith tried to acknowledge her as to be polite, but all that came out was a grunt. Lance had kept him up all night with mild taunts and accusations. When he had tried to take his mind off everything and train, Lance's image had appeared on the bots. Maybe— just maybe— Keith was starting to lose his sanity.
"I feel like I'm falling apart," Pidge whined. Their hair was sticking up even more than usual. "I stayed up all night making plans to go to Earth, but there's still so much we don't know. We could search for years and be no closer to Apollo, or Lance, or Shiro, or-or Matt." They were crying now. Commander Holt leaned over to comfort his child.
"We are not going to Earth," Allura seethed. "We don't even know where we are right now! How do you suppose we navigate across the universe without power? Besides, it's hardly worth the risk, not to mention the resources." She took an aggressive bite of food goo.
Keith nodded. He knew that they wouldn't find Lance, even if they did manage to track down Apollo.
Coran made a sad noise. Keith didn't understand why the Altean was crying, but he left before anyone could find out.
"What good is a bonding exercise going to do now?" Hunk slumped in his seat. "What's the point?"
Allura stiffened. "The Galra-"
"The Galra haven't done anything 'bad' in almost a month!" Pidge pointed out. "You just hate Lance, and I don't know why. You've always hated Lance! All he ever did was his best. He was a gift to this universe and he was a gift to this team! I don't know why you're such a psycho-bitch about anything having to do with him!"
Sam Holt looked like he was afraid to be hit. "Katie-"
"No! She needs to hear this. The last thing I say to him can not be calling him a fucking idiot. We have to get him back. If you don't make an effort, then I'll- I'll leave! I'll find him on my own, and I'll take the Green Lion with me!"
Allura stood up. "You can't do that! Besides, I was referring to Apollo as the waste of resources, but you know what? You're right. Lance would be too!"
Lance crawled over the table and ruffled Keith's hair. "You hear that, Keithy? They're fighting over me. It's a shame, though: all this effort being put towards locating a dead man. Maybe you should tell them what happened..."
Keith lifted his head off the table. "N-no. I can't."
Pidge and Allura broke their stare down to look at Keith. "What?"
Lance laughed. "Tell them! Are you really going to let them on this wild goose chase? Your teammates? Your friends? Your family?"
"No!" Keith said. "Stop it!"
"What are you talking about?" Pidge almost whined. "We have to look on Earth."
Keith looked up at them, helpless. Pidge seemed lost, spiritually. Allura wore a snooty face of triumph. Lance mocked sadness and pity.
"H-how would he even get there?" Keith tried. "All of the Lions are here and none of the pods have left. Allura's right. It'd be a waste of resources to look there."
"What about Shiro?! You were ready to rip apart the universe to find him when there was no trace he was even here! What do you have against Lance?!"
