Lance felt very heavy. Whatever was touching his face was soft and silky, but he couldn't see it. The soft feeling was all over his body. He only knew that he had been sleeping again because he woke up again. He saw a light through half lidded eyes before he fell out of consciousness again. Eventually, he could move. He stretched out and looked around. He was on a bed. This seemed normal to him: to wake up in an unknown place. He took in the room. It was large and mostly white. White silken sheets were draped about him. The bed was very comfortable, but Lance wanted to explore.

He crawled onto the floor, and found that he was wearing clothes. They were familiar. Altean silk, he decided.

He was drawn to a big window framed by sheer white curtains. As he approached, he found that the window was a sliding door. He opened it and stepped out onto a balcony. The view was beautiful. A little town with green trees led to a white beach with vibrant blue water. It made Lance laugh out loud. Then he felt sad. He felt very sad. He couldn't explain it. It was like he'd been waiting his whole life to see this, but something was wrong about it; something was missing, or rather someone. He squeezed his eyes shut and took a deep breath as a gentle breeze warped his clothing around him.

Lance couldn't see anything, and not because his eyes were closed. There was nothing in his mind. He was a blank slate. Not a clean slate, but one with remnants of color that had been hastily wiped away. He leaned over the railing. He felt himself start to fall, but someone grabbed his ankle. He opened his eyes to see a purple guy with long white hair.

Lotor, Lance mentally slapped himself. How the quiznak did I forget the love of life?

Lotor looked over the railing to the ground. "It's a long way down," he informed Lance, who was still dangling by his ankle.

"I slipped."

Lotor pulled Lance up and into his arms, amused. "You need to be more careful. Alteans are endangered, you know." He carried Lance back to the bed and set him down like he was made of glass. "What do you want to do today?"

Lance could really only remember doing one thing with Lotor, but his body seemed too tired for such activities. He looked back at the window. "We could go out there," he suggested. It was almost a question in his mouth.

Lotor swept a curl behind Lance's ear. "Of course, love." He pecked his nose. "Whatever you want."

They spent the day at the beach. It was warm and sunny. Lance couldn't stop fawning over Lotor's man bun. Lotor couldn't stop fawning over Lance, period. They made a house of sand that some kids kicked down. Lance had to distract Lotor from getting too angry about that. They ate garlic knots, which Lotor seemed afraid to try at first. Everything seemed right...mostly. Lance was really enjoying himself, but he couldn't shake the feeling from earlier. He still felt like something was missing.

He was even more upset when he saw some kids messing with a goldfish. They kept holding their hand out like they had food, then snatching the fish out of the water when it came towards them, and throwing it back in with a smack. They laughed when the fish swam frantically in circles and they laughed even more when it came back to their empty outstretched hand. "There's nothing wrong with it," the kids said when Lance asked what they were doing. "It doesn't remember, so it doesn't matter." That really struck a nerve with Lance for some reason.

The sun was setting. Lotor brought Lance away from everyone so that he could calm down. He kissed his tears away before they could fall. "You are so beautiful with tears in your eyes," Lotor sighed. "Sometimes all I want to do is see you cry."
