Connor entered his house, his mom looked distressed, but he just ignored her and headed for his bedroom. He couldn't be bothered with comforting someone who hardly paid any attention to him. He didn't even think they'd care enough to be worried, let alone notice that he was even gone. He fell onto his bed, taking in all of the comfort and warmth from his blankets and pillows. He wished he could stay in bed all day, never having to worry about another thing again.

He found comfort in knowing that Evan was somewhat of a friend to him. He hardly knew him, but he could get used to having him around... Hopefully...

"Honey?" Connor's mom poked her head through the doorway with a forced smile on her face, her hand clutched the doorknob, signaling she would only be a minute. Connor stared at her from his place on his bed, then rolled his eyes. Her smile faltered. "Connor..." Connor refused to even look at her. His hair made a curtain between his eyes and his mother. He focused his gaze on the ground. His mother gave up and left the room, shutting the door behind her.

His mom had never acknowledged his existence as much as she had today. It was usually all about his sister. Zoe Murphy. The good kid. The kid with a promising future. And, Connor? Well, Connor didn't have much of a future ahead of him. His teachers pressured him to do his work, but he always refused. His mind could never focus on his school work, it was always centered on his depressive thoughts consuming him from the time he woke up to the time he fell asleep at night. Most nights he didn't get much sleep because he couldn't empty his brain. He was always wondering if his family even cared about him, or if he'd ever make a friend in this messed up world.

Sometimes he even thought up ways he'd commit suicide, and end the pain plaguing him on a day to day basis.

Those thoughts were beginning to flood his mind and he tried his best to keep them out, but they continued to flit across his mind like a movie scene. He wanted to die. He needed to die.

He laid back and stuffed a pillow over his face, letting the tears cascade down his cheeks. They ran down his face slowly at first, but quickly began to stream down like a waterfall. He taught himself how to quietly cry, so no one in the house would be bothered with his gross sobbing. He wanted to go back to the solitude of the computer lab, so he could sob as loudly as he wanted to. He felt as if the louder he cried, the more pain he could let out.

On the other hand, Evan felt a bit different, but was still a tad bit upset. He was left alone again. All by himself, not even his mother was around. The pain of always being alone hurt, but he got used to it after a while.

Evan and Connor both had a lot in common, the pain of not having a friend to rely on... But, they had their differences as well.

Connor had both parents, even had a sister, but they hardly talked to him or acknowledged him. Evan only had a mother, but she was always at work... Evan was alone most of the time. Jared didn't even come to visit, even though he was supposed to be pretending they were friends. He must've not cared enough for his car insurance to hang out with Evan. Even Jared's company would be enough...

One of these days, Connor and Evan wouldn't be alone anymore...

Evan sat on the edge of his bed, his broken arm laid gently in his lap. He stared at the name on the cast. Connor. Evan eventually drifted off to a deep sleep, and dreamt of his accident over the summer.

Evan began to climb the tallest tree he could find, attempting to reach the highest branch, he gripped branch after branch... Until finally, he was at the top. He sat down on a branch, looking up at the sky, not minding the sun in his eyes. He had never been afraid of heights, he actually enjoyed them. "Evan? Evan! EVAN!" He heard shouting from below him. He looked down to see Connor Murphy standing at the bottom of the tree, his arms outstretched.

Evan tilted his head to the side.

'What is he doing?' Evan wondered as he began to hang from the branch, one-handed, but then something began to happen. His fingers began to slip from the branch and he was beginning to fall...and fall..and fall... Until...

Evan awoke with a start. His heart was thumping against his chest, and he felt as if he might have a heart attack. He leaped out of bed, sweat covered every inch of his body. He didn't feel like going to school today, but he knew he'd have to... It was only the third day back after all. He began to gather all of his things, but a noise sounded from his phone. He grabbed it, seeing a text from Jared.

Jared: Me and Alana are at the park. u coming?

Evan: I'm headed to school.

Jared: School's out. It's Sat. ur dumb.

Evan: Okay... Guess I'll be there then.

Evan sat his things down next to his bed, then headed for his closet. He put on a random t-shirt and some sweatpants. He never really cared much for fashion or anything of the sort, he just wore whatever was comfortable.

He began to walk to the park, but he noticed someone running towards him... Familiar long, dark locks flowing behind him and his fingernails the same color they were the day before and the other day, black. It was Connor, as per usual. "It's weird we keep meeting like this. Wanna walk?" Connor asked, his hands lazily shoved in his pockets. His eyes were bloodshot, and he smelled like... Weed? Evan wasn't sure what weed smelled like, but he assumed that's what the scent was.

"You okay?" Evan inquired.

"Never better." He laughed.
