The weeks had drifted by in a quick, delicate blur. It was now February and valentine's day was just around the corner... Connor had something special planned for Evan.

A candle-lit dinner, which Connor's parents had helped orchestrate. There were heaping plates full of chicken alfredo pasta and many other different entrees in the center of the table, such as smoked salmon, cornish hen, canapes, and (for dessert) English trifle. There was also a platter containing many different types of cheeses.

Candles sat on either side of the table and there was a sea-foam green tablecloth covering the entirety of the surface. "Do you really think he'll like it?" Connor asked, swarming around the room as if he had ants in his pants. He wore a black suit with a black bow-tie that used to be his dad's. "He'll love it, honey." Cynthia answered from the kitchen, wearing a red 'kiss the cook' apron. Connor began to examine the contents of the table, eventually accepting that everything seemed orderly, when a knock on the front door captured all of his attention.

"It's him!" Connor yelled as he dashed to the door, holding a small object in his pocket. He was nervous about tonight, but he knew in his heart that Evan would love it no matter what, even if he just got a couple of slushies from 7/11 and drank them in their special treehouse. Evan was simple, easy to please, but despite that fact... Connor wanted to make everything breathtakingly perfect. He grabbed at every ounce of courage he could muster to open up the front door. There stood Evan in all of his captivating glory... He wore a pair of black dress pants and a white dress shirt with a blue bow-tie around the collar. A smile filled up his features, showing off a set of sparkly white teeth.

"You look great." Connor cooed as he ushered Evan inside.

They sat down and began to converse about their lives together, knowing that they'd be together forever. They wined and dined, reveling in the deliciousness of the food and enchanted by the presence of each other. Neither wanted to move or lose sight of each other.

As the night began to draw to a close, Connor pulled a tiny object out of his pocket. It was a plain silver ring that had Evan + Connor engraved on the outside, for the world to see. He had it specially made by a family friend.

"Could I see your hand for a minute?"

Evan held out his hand with wonder twinkling behind his eyes as Connor pulled out the ring, then slipped it on his ring finger. "Hope you like it."

"I don't like it... I love it." Evan leaned across the table to press a loving kiss on Connor's lips.

"I just never thought there would be someone like you who'd want me... So I'll give you all of the reasons to not let me go." Evan murmured as he pulled away from the brief kiss. "Evan... You don't have to sell me on reasons to want you. I love you for you. You don't have to convince me, because you're more than enough." Connor initiated the next kiss, but this time it was longer and more passionate.

"Thank you."

Connor walked Evan home, watching the rest of the world fall away as their hands were tightly glued together. As they made it up Evan's porch, Heidi waltzed out, looking awestruck with the telephone held loosely in her hand. "Mom? What's wrong?" Evan asked, rushing to his mother. "Someone wants to talk to you..." Heidi held the phone to him, her eyes flitted to the ground as if she was unable to make eye contact with anyone at that particular moment.

"Uhm..." Evan pressed the phone to his ear. "Hello?"

"Hey, sport. How ya been?" A rough voice spilled out from the other side of the receiver and panic began to spread across Evan's body. "Dad." That was all Evan could say.

"Yep, it's your old man. Happy to hear from me?" Evan's dad said with a chipper tone. Evan wasn't too happy, as a matter of fact... He felt like giving him a piece of his mind. "No. Who do you think you are, calling us after all these years? Shove off." Evan's tone was overly aggressive, but he couldn't let his dad hurt him again. He wouldn't let his dad hurt him again. "Eli, don't be like that. Is it a crime for a father to wanna check on his only son?"

"It's Evan. Don't call me son." Evan hung up the phone and dropped it into his mother's hands. He couldn't believe after all these years... His dad finally decided to check up on him as if all of those years had only been seconds. He had missed every milestone in Evan's life and Evan would be damned if he was going to allow him to ruin the last bit of sanity he had left.

He wouldn't fall apart for his dad.

"Mom. Connor. How about we order a pizza and watch a movie or something?"

"Alright... But, are you okay?" Connor asked, squeezing gently on Evan's shoulder.

"Why wouldn't I be?" Evan smiled as his thoughts swam with a single thought.

Dear Evan Hansen, today is going to be a good day and here's why: Because today - Today at least you're you and - that's enough.
