Steven stood at the top of the stairs, his head low and his arms crossed. Officer Sloan approached him and spoke. "Just so I've got this straight," Sloan started, "you didn't see your wife at all this morning, and when you came home that's when you found your wife's remains?"

"That's right." Steven replied.

"And you have no idea who could have done this?"

Steven shook his head slowly. "No." He said, barely more than a whisper.

A muscle twitched in Sloan's square jaw. "Can you tell me your whereabouts from today?"

Steven's brows pulled together. He was taken aback.

They couldn't possibly think he'd do anything like that...

Meanwhile, officer Janssen was examining the chunky, red mush on the floor that was Patricia. Or what was left of her.

Something caught his eye, he squatted down to get a closer look-trying not to disturb the remains as much as humanly possible.

His brow knotted as he tried to focus on what he was seeing. He pulled out his pen and poked at the meaty mess.

Suddenly, his eyes widened, his chest tightened and forced the very breath from his lungs. Janssen shuddered. "Oh my god."

He covered his mouth and ran out of the room.

"What is it?" Asked Sloan.

Janssen didn't respond. He couldn't. He frantically rushed to the bathroom, straight to the toilet and threw his head inside the bowl.

Both Sloan and Steven went to the bathroom doorway. Janssen was retching up his stomach contents. The two men watched him for a moment, a look of disgust on their faces.

"What happened, Janssen?" Sloan asked.

Janssen sat back on his legs and allowed his head to flop back as he panted. He then wiped his lip with the sleeve of his uniform and said, "Was your wife-" he turned to Steven, "-pregnant?"

Sloan's wide eyes shot to Steven.

A chill went through Steven's body. "Yes." He said dryly.

"Why didn't you mention that your wife was pregnant?" Sloan questioned, his burning gaze still fixed on Steven.

"It hadn't crossed my mind." Steven replied truthfully.

"How do you forget that your wife was with child?" Sloan said through gritted teeth.

"It's not-"

"Not what?" Sloan spat, interrupting Steven.

"It's not my baby."
