Sadie reached for her magic blanket, but Rosemary pulled it out of her reach."We still need to sew it up, remember?" Said Rosemary. "We need to make sure no more monstrosities can escape into our world."
Steven shut his eyes and sighed. "I'm not even going to try to understand any of this crap anymore. Lets just get this nightmare over with."
With that-ushering Sadie along in front of her-Rosemary lead them down to the laundry.
As they entered the laundry, a bellowing howl was heard. It came from upstairs.
Steven closed the door behind him, leaving only a crack for him to peek through.
The monsters had opened the bedroom door and were creeping into the hallway. They moved slowly and cautiously, always taking a moment to sniff about.
As Steven stared up at them in disbelief, he frowned. They'd stopped not two feet from the staircase.
Why weren't they coming down? He thought to himself. His eyes widened, and he took in a sharp breath before shutting the door. He put his back against it and looked down.
Sadie was looking up at him, still holding Luna in her arms.
A sombre look overcame his face as he stared into his daughters tired green eyes. He put a hand on her shoulder and spoke softly. "I'm sorry I didn't believe you, Sadie." He sighed. "I'm so sorry."
Sadie's lips pressed together and pulled to the side. "It's okay dad," She said, "it's not your fault. It's mine."
"No, Sadie. Don't you think that way." Steven glowered.
"But it's my blanket. I created them with my brain."
"Sadie-"
Sadie started to tear up. "There are monsters in my head and I'm sorry." She shouted and Luna leapt from her grasp. There was a silent pause before she whispered, "And there's nothing you can do."
Steven didn't know what to say or do. So, he just knelt down and hugged her, and she started to sob.
Over Sadie's shoulder, Steven could see Rosemary. She had stopped sewing the blanket for a moment to watch the two of them.
She gave him a smile and he gave her a small grin right back.
Steven had totally forgotten to mention that a monster had seen him peeking out the door.
