After their first kiss, he pulled back, and stayed silent, not wanting to ruin the moment.

“I lied earlier. ” Ana admitted. “I do know that I'm attracted to you.” Her voice wasn't louder than a whisper.

He frowned first and smiled. "That's....amazing." But he knew they couldn't be together.

“You don't sound that excited.” She mumbled, letting her arms fall besides her sides.

"I am...it's just...if I were a merman, or you were a human, it would be easier.." Gabriel sighed.

“I see.” She sighed. “I'd have never expected to fall in love again. And with a human.”

“Well this sucks.” Ana bluntly said. “We can't be together just because of this stupid hex.”

"If there only was a way to get it off..." Gabriel muttered. Okay, he knew nothing about magic, but she does. "What if we'd replace it?"

“Replace it? Gabriel, you know nada about magic. You can't just replace a hex. A hex is a curse. And every curse has a loophole. I just don't know what the loophole is. ” The mermaid said, crossing her arms. “Sorry, hun, but I don't think we can find any solution. I know some magic but I have never gotten into the hex stuff. My mother knew a lot about this. She would've known a solution.”

His mouth formed an 'Oh'. He wanted to ask about her mother but decided to stay silent. After a minute, he had an idea.
"Maybe another kiss? It might be helping this time, or at least it does in those myths..."

“What myths?” She questioned but she stepped closer to him anyways.

"My mother used to tell me. There was this myth about a guy and a girl that loved each other but they were from different families so couldn't get together." In the end, they both died, but he wouldn't tell that.

“Tragic.” She softly said, wrapping her arms back around his neck. “Let's give this another shot?”

"Sure." He said as he kissed her.

Meanwhile, three Royal guards were swimming under the ship. "She should be here. On that ship. They probably want to sell her but we won't let them. We get on that ship and when we can, we turn into humans and surprise them. Stay silent." The leader said.

Gabriel pulled her closer, his hands wrapped around Ana's waist.

The three guards silently climb up on the net, transforming to humans and when they were up, they land on the deck with a sound that makes Gabriel pull away. "Get the princess and kill that human."

Gabriel drew his sword and stood in front of Ana. "Fight me."

Ana was definitely surprised at the sound of a familiar voice. The pink haired girl stood behind Gabriel with a very worried look. If he decided to take on three Royal guards, there is just no way he'd survive that.

To get a long story short, the fight didn't last long and after a few minutes of intense fighting, one guard was killed, one other was harmed, and the third, the leader, had Gabriels sword in his hands and held it against Gabriel's throat.

She's about to risk everything by yelling a simple word. “Stop!” She shouted out. “I command you to stop. Release the captain immediately. He has not harmed me.” Ana said, a little more calm.

"Well, he even if he didn't, he still kissed you and killed one of our guards." The guard said. "And you know the rule, a life for a life. And why would you even care about him? He's a human and he captured you."

“I won't ever so this man again. But he is innocent. I played his game to safe my own skin. Well, tail to be more precise. The guard was a fool. Even I could've defeated him in battle. ”

"Still, he captured you and held you captured." The guard said.

Gabriel looked at her in disbelief. Was she telling the truth, or a good liar? He stayed silent, because he knew that if he said a word his life would be over.

“I am your princess! You have to listen to me. Or I shall use your life inside of his.” She gestured at Gabriel. As she glanced at him, seeing he seemed confused and disbelieving. “You know I am not afraid to do that.”

"I know, but I have my orders and you know I should listen to them. By the way, he is a human, you shouldn't care whether he's alive or not." The guard said, his grip against the sword tightening.

Ana glared at him. “Let him go and you will live. Don't let him go and I will take your heart.” She meant it. It was one of the things she had learnt. “This pitiful human only killed the gaurd because you attacked him. He thought he was protecting me. Now, I do not care for him nor do I want to see him ever again. He doesn't deserve to die yet. ”

The guard let Gabriel go and pushed him away. "Then, my princess, are we going now." He said as he walked over to the rail.

Gabriel stumbled backwards, fighting against the tears welling up in his eyes.

She nodded, following the guard. Ana felt like she had just stabbed Gabriel over and over again. And that feeling became worse as she saw the tears in his eyes. ‘I'm truly sorry.’ She mouthed at him.

Gabriel nodded a bit, wiping the tears away.  She had been lying to the guard. He turned away to the steering wheel. He would never see her again but otherwise it also might be dangerous for her. Meanwhile, the guard dove off the ship into the water.

Ana wanted to run towards him for one last kiss. But she knew the guard was wanting for her. And just as she wanted to jump of the ship, she remembered that Gabriel had her necklace and she had his ring. She took the ring of, laying it in sight before jumping of boat.

He looked backwards, seeing the ring. He grabbed it and remembered the  necklace. He got to his cabin, where he kept it, and held it in his hands as he got over to the rail, dropping it in the water, hoping she would get it back.

The guard had already started his way home when Ana heard something fall in the water. She smiled, grabbing her necklace. “I'll never forget you, Gabriel Johnson.” She softly said before swimming away.

Fyi, the necklace and ring were exchanged because of the deal that was spoken about in the prologue.
